So, it finally happened, after 36 years of gaming I put my PlayStation 5 back into its box and sent it to the attic. Now, as a life long gamer, I would have laughed if anyone was to suggest this would happen at the tender age of 41. I have been thinking of putting the PlayStation 5 away now for a long time and finally bit the bullet over the weekend.
Now, I am purely sounding off here, so do not expect some divine statement or enlightening monologue, but hopefully GC will use it as at least it breaks up the repeated ‘My Xbox is better than your PlayStation 5’ features we seem to be getting a lot of recently. [Eh? – GC]
I have been mulling over the reasons for why I have fallen out of love with gaming, maybe having a couple of kids under six, but then why now and not five years ago?
Maybe it’s a midlife crisis and if I do not return to some kind of creative outlet, my book/game/painting will never get made.
Or maybe it is simply the state of the industry at present, with a complete lack of creativity, predatory models, toxicity of the fanbase, directionless manufacturers, etc.
Or maybe it is just my brain coming to terms with the modern day end times.
I feel it is likely a mix of all of these things, however I have found myself on a more and more regular basis putting on the PlayStation 5 and struggling to find something that would keep me interested.
I have played Baldur’s Gate 3, Tekken 8, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth recently and nothing. They keep my interest for a matter of hours, then I lose all enthusiasm for them.

I feel this against the backdrop of the industry as a whole seeming to be going through a creativity vacuum, whilst Sony and Microsoft are running around like headless chickens with no idea of their strategy moving forward.
I do not doubt that my interest will return someday, hopefully it will return before the inevitable nuclear apocalypse turns reality into a LARP of Fallout.
