Greg Rutherford has returned to social media with a ‘gross’ update, revealing the scar he’s left with after his horror Dancing On Ice accident.
The former Olympian was forced to withdraw from the competition’s final last month – which saw Ryan Thomas crowned champion – on the morning of the spectacle after he suffered an injury in rehearsals.
He later revealed how gruesome it truly was and detailed the accident, saying he ‘effectively gave [himself] a C-section’ while attempting to leap through the legs of two pro ice-skaters during his routine.
After undergoing surgery and taking some time off social media to recover, Greg, 37, has now shared images of the scar below his belly button, with pictures of the healing wound and the ‘insane swelling’ he had.
He wrote: ‘A little stomach update… I’m almost 4 weeks post op now and feeling so much better. I can move around with almost no feeling of pain and the wound has now closed and healed. Pic 2 shows the insane swelling I initially had 🤣.’
Greg said that he is working on ‘tensing his abs’ and even teased returning to the ice, saying: ‘I can’t tense my abs properly still, but that’s coming. I also managed to put a ton of weight on since the op, so as soon as I’m ready I’ll be training to get myself trim again… maybe even back on skates 👀.’
Over on his Instagram stories, he added: ‘I’m back on Insta and thought I’d gross everyone out – but it is a positive update.’

Explaining the accident last month, ahead of undergoing surgery, Greg had shared: ‘Long story short, I leapt through the legs of Brendyn and Colin and managed to tear all of my abs as well as herniate. So I effectively gave myself a C-section.
‘So yes, it was horribly painful. It needs to be operated on today and then I’ll be properly on the mend.’
‘It was very painful, pretty horrible,’ he added.
He later shared that the operation he underwent was ‘slightly bigger than originally hoped’ and that he was ‘very sore’.

Dad-of-three Greg retired from professional sports in 2018 due to injury, after winning gold in the Long Jump during the London 2012 Olympics.
As soap star Ryan accepted the Dancing On Ice trophy, he dedicated the win to Greg, saying: ‘Listen Greg, if you’re watching this at home, this trophy’s for you mate.’
He later joked during an appearance on Lorraine how he wanted to hand over his trophy to Greg, with the injured star replying on Instagram Stories, saying: ‘Just a second walked in through the door after having a scan on my stomach and I’ve just seen what Ryan’s been saying on Lorraine.’

‘First and foremost Ryan, you should never have had imposter syndrome: you were the worthy winner of the show.
‘You were incredible from day one. The King of Spin and just an amazing human to be around.’
‘You can keep the trophy,’ he laughed.
Dancing On Ice is available to watch on ITVX.
