Nintendo’s latest Indie World showcase featured 17 games in total, featuring cats, turtles, ducks and embroidery.
While many were left disappointed by the continued non-apperance of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the latest Nintendo Indie World presentation still featured some welcome announcements.
The closing highlight was SteamWorld Heist 2, a sequel to the turn-based side-scrolling shooter which served as a spin-off to SteamWorld Dig. The game is set to launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox Series X/S on August 8.
You can check out that announcement and everything else covered in the presentation below, including Europa and Stitch.
Little Kitty, Big City
From developer Double Dagger Studio, this cutesy cat adventure game looks like a mix between Stray and Untitled Goose Game, as you explore a big city and cause havoc among the human citizens.
Little Kitty, Big City is out on Nintendo Switch, PC and Xbox on May 9.
Yars Rising
Developer WayForward reimagines this Atari classic as a 2D Metroidvania, as you control a human hacker who is hired to infiltrate an evil corporation’s headquarters.
Yars Rising is out on consoles and PC in ‘late’ 2024.
Refind Self: The Personality Test Game
This exploration-based adventure is heading to Switch after being released on PC last year, where you take on the role of an android who has been created by a now-deceased doctor.
Refind Self: The Personality Game is out on Switch in summer 2024 as a timed console exclusive.
Sticky Business
Described as a ‘cosy business simulation’, this games tasks you with running a sticker shop where you create various customisable stickers for customers.
Sticky Business is out now, with DLC, as a timed-console exclusive on Switch.
Antonblast
If you’re still craving for Pizza Tower on Switch, this zany high-speed platformer might satisfy those urges. Just imagine Wario Land but considerably faster and more bizarre.
Antonblast is out on Switch and Steam on November 12, with a demo available now.
Valley Peaks
Developed by Tub Cub, this first- erson rock-climbing adventure sees players solve puzzles to ascend various mountains, with a charming pastel visual style and bizarre frogs.
Valley Peaks hits Switch and PC later in 2024.
Lorelei And The Laser Eyes
The team behind Sayonara Wild Hearts return with this non-linear puzzle game, where you control a woman who has been summoned to a creepy old hotel filled with nightmare illusions. With its distinctive, Suda51-style graphics, this could be a standout among this year’s indie crop.
Lorelei And The Laser Eyes is released on Switch and PC on May 16.
Europa
This 3D action platformer takes more than a few cues from Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Studio Ghibli, as you use a jetpack to fly and glide around the expansive, vibrant landscape.
Europa is out on Switch and Steam later this year, with a demo available now.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate
Another day, another roguelike. Only this one isn’t exactly new as it came out on iOS last year. In Splintered Fate, TMNT takes the genre plunge with online multiplayer co-op. It looks like it’s sticking pretty close to the Hades formula, with permanent upgrades you can unlock back at your home base.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate is out in July 2024 on Switch.
Cat Quest 3
Sail the Purribean (not our pun) in this action RPG sequel, which promises a refined combat system and access to your own ship as you explore the seas for booty.
Cat Quest 3 will be released on PlayStation, PC, Switch and Xbox Series X/S on August 8. A demo is out today.
Stitch.
In what looks like a cross between Minesweeper and Picross, this title puts an embroidery spin on the classic puzzlers. It previously came out on Apple Arcade last year and was one of our favourite games from the showcase.
Stitch, is available now on Switch and Apple Arcade.
SteamWorld Heist 2
Lead a rag-tag crew of Steambots in this turn-based shooter adventure, where bullets ricochet to deadly effect. It’s a sequel to 2015’s SteamWorld Heist, created by Swedish developer Image & Form.
SteamWorld Heist 2 is out on all platforms on August 8, 2024.
More Trending
Others highlighted in a sizzle reel include action-platformer BZZZT (summer 2024), shadow-based platformer SCHiM (July 18), dark action adventure Animal Well (May 9), narrative mystery Duck Detective: The Secret Salami (May 23), and Soulslike Another Crab’s Treasure (April 25).
There’s some good stuff in there, with Antonblast, Stitch., SteamWorld Heist 2, and others all looking interesting, but until Silksong is finally announced these sort of showcases are going to continue to be mild disappointments.
