“Hopefully I Get Better”: Naomi Osaka Reflects on Her 1st Round Victory at French Open 2021

World No.2 Naomi Osaka got off to a brilliant start at the French Open 2021. Facing Patricia Maria Tig in the first round of the tournament, the Japanese star looked in some great touch and didn’t face many difficulties during the match. The final scoreline of the match was 6-4, 7(7)-6(4).

The victory surely gave a lot of confidence to Naomi Osaka. She hasn’t been playing well on clay lately and this triumph will certainly help her to get some momentum.

In the post-match interview, former French tennis player Fabrice Santoro asked her a very peculiar question. He asked that how can she actually adapt her game and movement on clay. Interestingly, Osaka came up with a strange response for the same.

“Uhm, let’s say it’s a work in progress… Uhm… Hopefully, the more I play the better it will get,” replied Osaka.

Santoro couldn’t digest this response properly and said,” I didn’t understand, sorry.”

It was surely a hilarious moment for fans as well as they too couldn’t figure out what Osaka was actually trying to say.

Naomi Osaka believes that she’ll improve on clay if she’ll play more matches on the surface

When Santora and the fans didn’t get the meaning of what the Japanese star meant, she explained it in easier terms. The 23-year-old explained that if she plays more and more matches on clay, she’ll definitely become a better player.

“If I play more matches hopefully I get better,” added the 4-time Grand Slam winner.

Osaka has surely got her form back after thrashing Tig in straight sets in the first round. She’ll hope to progress in a similar way in the next rounds of the Grand Slam as well.

Naomi Osaka will now advance to the second round of the French Open 2021. She’ll be up against Romania’s Ana Bogdan there and the match will take place the day after tomorrow. Will Osaka be able to continue playing like this and lift her maiden Roland Garros title this year?
