Chris Jericho Wants to Team Up With Kenny Omega on His NJPW Return

Between leaving WWE and coming to AEW, Chris Jericho spent a hefty amount of time in New Japan Pro Wrestling. He joined the promotion full-time and promptly after leaving WWE in 2019. He won the IWGP Intercontinental Championship.

Jericho won the title from Tetsuya Naito and coincidentally dropped the belt back to him. Then the ‘Demo God‘ shocked the world as he joined the newbie, All Elite Wrestling. He also became the inaugural AEW World Champion.

After a couple of years, Jericho remains an integral part of the programming. His role is more than an on-screen sports entertainer in the promotion as he grooms new talents off screen.

However, Jericho still remembers his journey overseas. A few years ago it was impossible but thanks to AEW President Tony Khan, now it is possible for AEW wrestlers to perform in other promotions like Impact, and IGPW (and possibly AAA).

In an interview with TSN, Chris Jericho revealed that he has some “unfinished business” in New Japan. He also named some potential opponents.

There’s a lot of unfinished business for me in New Japan. Jay White is one [potential opponent], [Minoru] Suzuki is another one that would draw big money. Kota Ibushi and [Will] Ospreay, those four guys I’d love to work with.”

Chris Jericho wants to team up with Kenny Omega in New Japan

Everyone in the wrestling world knows that Kenny Omega is one of the top pro wrestlers in the world. In a rare feat of achievements, Omega has won three World titles in three different promotions, one of them being New Japan Pro Wrestling.

Keeping this in mind, Jericho said he wants to team up with the “Belt Collector.” As both of them had their career jet-start from Winnipeg, the “Le Champion” named their duo “Golden Jets” in honor of the city’s ice hockey team.

I’d love to do a ‘Golden Jets’ team–Kenny and Jericho–versus [Kazuchika] Okada and Ibushi or [Hiroshi] Tanahashi and Okada or Tanahashi and Ibushi. I think that’s a Tokyo Dome main event right there.”

“So there’s a lot of stuff I’d still like to do in New Japan and as soon as we can start going over there again,” Jericho said hopefully. “I’m more than agreeable to doing more work there. I really enjoyed the six matches that I had there in 2018 and 2019 and think there’s plenty of room for more.”

As of now Chris Jericho and the Inner Circle will take on MJF and his Pinnacle at AEW Double or Nothing this Sunday. Their match is a must-watch as it is the second-ever stadium stampede match in AEW history.
