Rebecca Ferguson has revealed she suffered a miscarriage years ago and was allegedly ‘forced’ to work through it.

The former X Factor star has been vocal in recent months against mistreatment in the music industry and even met with Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden about artist welfare and protecting musicians.

On Sunday, Rebecca, 34, revealed that she is working on a documentary and shared her personal heartbreak of losing an unborn child.

‘You will see more in my documentary.. but these people forced me to work through a miscarriage despite me pleading to them that I was too ill to work and needed to rest!’ she tweeted without naming anyone specifically or stating when the miscarriage occurred.

‘They need to be stopped! Exploitation at its absolute worst! modern-day slavery!’

Rebecca continued: ‘For those who say you knew what you were getting into! I almost died promoting music for you all to listen to! I lost a baby whilst promoting music for you all to listen to! Nope definitely did not! ever! In a million years sign up for that!

‘Stop defending abusers! [sic].’

Rebecca is mother to three children; daughter Lillie May and son Karl from her relationship with ex-boyfriend Karl Dures, as well as daughter Arabella from a later relationship.

Earlier this year, Rebecca ramped up her campaign to introduce policies within record labels and other areas of the industry that would protect the welfare of performers, following allegations raised by singers Jedward, who recently called out The X Factor and Simon Cowell.

After meeting with Mr Dowden, the I Hope singer told her Twitter followers: ‘I had a very successful meeting with Secretary of State @OliverDowden. I look forward to working with the government and ministers to bring about positive change in the music industry.’

Mr Dowden also wrote: ‘Engaging and constructive meeting with @RebeccaFMusic last week who passionately shared her views about discrimination in the music industry.

‘We agreed that Ministers will work with Rebecca and industry figures to take this discussion forward.’
