“It’s Not Up to Me”- Kofi Kingston Is Not Mad About a Humiliating WWE Championship Loss to Brock Lesnar

KofiMania was running wild in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania 35 a couple of years ago as fans pushed Kofi Kingston to WWE Championship glory, marking a historic milestone in WWE history and the Ghanaian’s career.

However, after a comfortable reign as one of the biggest names in the company, Kofi was made to drop the belt in a humiliating fashion. ‘Mr. 24/7’ found himself staring face to face at a return Brock Lesnar, and there was no way out.

‘The Beast Incarnate’ challenged Kofi on the first episode of SmackDown on Fox and managed to wrap the match up in mere seconds. Rather than having an action-packed showdown with brute strength vs aerial screamers, Lesnar immediately hoisted Kofi up for his finisher, the F5. 

This move ended Kofi’s reign as Champion and he failed to kick out of the early stunner. This marked a very uneasy conclusion to his brave reign as Champion, and fans question the decision to this date.

“I told a lot of people that if it was up to me, I would have had that match be different in the way that it went down,” Kingston said, speaking to DAZN. “But the thing is, that it’s not up to me. I think what we need to realize is that you control what you can control. That’s it. I don’t get mad over what I can’t control.” 

“I show up to work, and it’s like, ‘What we’re doing? Ok, maybe we can do it like this, but we’re going to do it like this’. Then once you have the outline of what’s going to happen, that’s the way that you proceed,” he said.

Kofi Kingston deserved a longer match for his efforts

Kofi Kingston does not seem too bothered by the loss and only looks ahead in his endeavors. Although, it would have been a lot more satisfying for his reign and journey to get there had the match been longer. 

With The New Day at its peak, WWE could have come out with both stars looking strong. Unfortunately, the squash victory sent Kofi down the pecking order. He hasn’t been involved in main events since then, which is quite unfortunate. 

However, he will get his chance at the gold yet again if he mangoes to beat Drew McIntyre on the next episode of Raw. It may not be KofiMania, but it surely could be KofiSlam if things go his way.
