A follow-up to Doom Eternal could be announced next month, as multiple insiders predict an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase.
While there are some big questions around how Microsoft will handle its Xbox Games Showcase, following the closure of multiple studios, we do have some idea of what games will appear.
Gears Of War 6 is expected to be shown in some capacity, along with Avowed, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and Indiana Jones And The Great Circle. The next Call Of Duty is also rumoured to appear, but that will apparently be revealed before the showcase.
There’s now evidence to suggest the next Doom could show up too, with a resurfaced trademark filed by Bethesda doing the rounds online.
Filed in the US in January this year, the pending trademark is titled ‘IDKFA’ – a cheat code used in the original Doom games.
A trademark doesn’t always point to the arrival of a new game, but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a follow-up to Doom Eternal. A game titled Doom Year Zero was leaked in Microsoft documents last year, which is still yet to be shown in any official capacity.
Earlier this month, The Verge editor Tom Warren strongly implied a Doom game will be announced at the Xbox Showcase. ‘Microsoft will be banking on some new game announcements lifting the DOOM around Xbox,’ he wrote on Twitter.
If that wasn’t enough, insider Jeff Grubb has also said he ‘expects’ the next game from developer id Software to show up – although he’s ‘not 100% sure’ whether it will be a new Doom or Quake. ‘I would probably lean towards Doom,’ he added, although it sounds like this isn’t based on any development sources.
Grubb also recently walked back comments about Perfect Dark being in a ‘very rough state’ and claims this was based on outdated information, and that the game may in fact be at the Xbox Games Showcase next month.

It’s been over four years since the release of Doom Eternal, which was supported by a two-part DLC titled The Ancient Gods. That is the right amount of time for a sequel, with the gap between 2016’s Doom and Doom Eternal also being four years.
Developer id Software might also be planning to launch an update to Doom Eternal at the Xbox Showcase on June 9, after a backend update on Steam suggested official mod support was inbound.
