Season three of Bridgerton just dropped and now one of the best period dramas on Netflix, Little Women, is set to disappear just as fans are craving more of the genre.

The 2019 film, based on a novel by the late author Louisa May Alcott, stars Saoirse Ronan (Jo), Emma Watson (Meg), Florence Pugh (Amy) and Eliza Scanlen (Beth) as the March sisters.

They are joined by Meryl Streep as Aunt March and Timothée Chalamet as Theodore Laurence.

Greta Gerwig’s adaptation is actually the eighth time the popular book has been made into a movie, but fans absolutely adore the period film, all about the sisters’ journey into adulthood in the 1860s.

But fans better get watching Little Women on Netflix soon, as the last day it will be available on the streaming giant is 24 May.

On discovering this loss, fans took to X sharing their sadness as the beloved adaptation’s departure.

‘Netflix taking Little Women and Pretty Little Liars off their app is probably the worst thing to ever happen to me,’ wrote @esnykatelyn.

‘What do you mean Little Women and Wild Child are leaving Netflix?!’ added @RicBull3.

Meanwhile, some were truly devastated with @stilllfolklore writing: ‘THEY’RE TAKING LITTLE WOMEN OFF NETFLIX?????????’

‘Netflix please keep Little Women on ur damn platform,’ pleaded @wonnyskalz, while @fakeitflowerss said: ‘LITTLE WOMEN IS BEING TAKEN OFF NETFLIX IM GONNA RIOT.’

On Rotten Tomatoes, the Oscar-winning film received 92% from over 10,000 verified ratings from the audience, while the tomatometre gives it a 95% score, making this film super fresh.

In 2020 the film was nominated for many Oscars, but only won the best costume category, with designer Jaqueline Durren also taking home a Bafta for her work.

On its release, critics praised Little Women as ‘near perfect’.

TIME magazine celebrated director Greta’s ability to make the movie feel modern while still being ‘respectful’ to its 19th-century era.

Calling the film ‘respectful and invigorating’, the review began: ‘… With her film adaptation, Gerwig re-embroiders and reinforces that unspoken reassurance. Like Alcott, she leads by example: She has made a film that’s complex and thoughtful but that is also, at every moment, pure pleasure to watch.’

The Washington Post said similar, calling the latest version of Louisa Alcott’s classic book, ‘a nearly perfect film’, while Empire Magazine praised the film for ‘centering the narrative on grown women with real-world concerns.’

‘From the uniformly excellent performances of a talented ensemble to the just-right choices in scoring, art direction, costuming and editing, this is a stunning interpretation,’ The Wrap added.

Before Barbie director Greta’s adaptation of the famous book, the 1994’s version starred Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Kirsten Dunst and Susan Sarandon.
