In the 1980s and 1990s Downtown Julie Brown was a regular fixture on screens fronting the hit show Club MTV.
Born in Bedfordshire and growing up on air bases around the world including in countries like Singapore and Cyprus due to her father’s work in the Royal Air Force, Julie’s family eventually settled in Wales.
After winning the UK Disco Dancing Championships, she went on to win the World Disco Dancing Championship in 1979 and soon after began her career on British TV as a presenter, firstly on several children’s programmes, including the long-running show Crackerjack.
She also appeared as a dancer on Top of the Pops in the early 1980s as a member of the dance troupe Zoo.
But it was after that that her career really took off, presenting on the pan-European music channel Music Box.
She then moved to the United States and became an MTV VJ, hosting Club MTV from 1987 until 1992.

With a format similar to that of American Bandstand, her show featured an exclusive line-up of dance music.
She also had a catchphrase on the show, Wubba Wubba Wubba, which stuck after she accidentally read the T-shirt of a camera crew member who was holding the cue cards while on live TV.
After eventually leaving the music channel, Julie worked for ESPN in sports broadcasting, then hosting the E Entertainment channel’s gossip show.
She then went on to pursue a career in acting, here being interviewed by Jay Leno in 1995 (Picture: Margaret C. Norton/NBCUniversal via Getty Images via Getty Images)
For a year from 1992 she also hosted the radio show American Dance Traxx.
She’s also appeared in shows and movies including Sharknado 5, Hey Arnold!, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!, Wife Swap and RuPaul’s Drag U.
The presenter also currently works as a host on the SiriusXM channel ’90s on 9 and also hosts The Back in The Day Replay Countdown, which plays 30 biggest songs of the week from a particular year in the 1990s.

Despite it now being 32 years since her hit MTV series started, Julie doesn’t appeared to have aged at all.
A recent photo shared by her on social media showed the 60-year-old looking almost like she did back in the 1990s.
The host also revealed she’s embracing some throwback moments and will be helping front a 90s music cruise next year.
In February she also shared a photo when she interviewed Donna Summers in the 1980s.
‘Awww…I remember being so in awe. Trying to keep my cool when talking with The Queen of Disco,’ she shared.
In 2001 she married film producer and former CEO of Intermedia Martin Schuermann in 2001.
They live in Marina del Rey, California, with their daughter Gianna.
