Netflix viewers have been left ‘traumatised’ after tuning into a new South Korean thriller series.

Released last week, The 8 Show tells the story of eight people who are in desperate need of money and are then invited to be contestants on a mysterious reality show.

They are then trapped in an eight-storey building, where they can earn money hourly and the longer they stay, the more they can earn.

However, except for food and water, all other resources cost 1000 times more than regular prices.

So, to earn more time and money, the contestants must earn more hours by pleasing the unseen audience hiding behind the cameras.

But if a contestant dies (or is murdered) then everyone loses.

As the clock gets going, the contestants then learn that some of the group are earning more than others, leading to unrest.

Based on the Naver webtoons Money Game and Pie Game by Bae Jin-soo, the dark comedy thriller has been billed as a ‘slow-burn series that reveals just how vulnerable humans are to the darkest sides of a hyper-capitalist society’.

It’s unsurprisingly already been compared to the hit show Squid Game.

Not unlike that dark comedy, this series has also seen viewers unsettled by the dark storyline.

‘Finished #The8Show….Wow. Just wow. I have no words other than that,’ user Pat posted on X.

‘God I’ve just watched #The8Show and with no exaggeration, it’s the WILDEST, SICKEST and CRAZIEST show I’ve EVER watched. but the worst thing is that I have to sleep now and I don’t know if I can because my brain has to process ALL THAT omfggggg,’ Devine shared.

‘Been watching #The8Show on Netflix. It’s insane. Writers did a good job on making me hate these characters,’ Tonya added.

This viewer said they were left ‘screaming at the TV’ (Picture: X)

Another said it was a ‘scary commentary on society’ (Picture: X)

Many have raced through the five episodes (Picture: X)

Meanwhile others labelled the series ‘wild’, ‘sick’, and ‘diabolically evil’, while some said they were left ‘screaming at the TV’ or ‘traumatised’.

‘I thought The 8 Show was going to be a Squid Game knock-off, but it is its own horror. I love it,’ another shared.

For those still wanting to tune into Squid Game again too, the second season of the hit series is due to hit screens later this year.

In February a teaser trailer was released and showed Lee Jung-jae, who starred as Seong gi-hun – the lone survivor of the games –with pink hair strolling through what looks like a train station or airport.

By an ominous voice speaking to him on the phone, he’s heard being told: ‘You’ll regret your decision.’

Looking menacing, Seong gi-hun refuses to back down and replies: ‘I will find you. No matter what it takes.’

The lip prompted many excited tweets from fans, with many saying they ‘couldn’t wait’ for it to return.

The 8 Show is streaming on Netflix.
