Modern Family drew to a close in 2020 after 11 years (Picture: Kelsey McNeal/ABC/BSkyB/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)
Modern Family, which followed the lives of three families all interrelated through patriarch Jay Pritchett (Ed O’Neill) in suburban Los Angeles, ended in 2020 after 11 years on our screens.
There were plans for a spin-off focussing on Mitchell, his husband Cam (Eric Stonestreet) and their adopted daughter Lily (Aubrey Anderson-Emmons) as they settled into their new Missouri home.
Speaking about the potential show in 2022, however, Jesse said it had been shelved during an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live.
‘There were discussions,’ he told the Real Housewives creator. ‘I think the network decided against it. That’s the first time I ever said that!
‘I think they were just wondering if this was the right family to still tell that story.
‘We’d been on for 11 years, I think they were ready to move in a different direction.’
Last month, Lily actress Aubrey spilled the beans on how her character was recast – with many viewers believing she played her when she was a baby.
But she actually made her debut as Lily in season three, while infant twins Jaden and Ella Hiller portrayed thetot for the first two years.

She told her fans on TikTok: ‘If you don’t know, I was on Modern Family from the ages of four to 12, I believe. I was on for nine seasons, I think there are 11 seasons.
‘A lot of people think I was the actual baby at the beginning of the show but no, I was not. I auditioned when I had just turned four. The babies were actually twins.
‘I did two or three auditions for the whole thing. I had a chemistry read with Jesse Tyler Ferguson who plays my dad in the show, he’s the ginger one. I love him.’
