Kate Winslet refused to let the Mare of Easttown director edit a ‘bulgy bit of belly’ from one of the sex scenes.

The HBO and Sky drama wrapped up on Sunday night, with Erin McMenamin’s unlikely killer finally being revealed in a heartbreaking ending.

Kate, 45, starred as detective sergeant Mare Sheehan and has now revealed she was determined to make sure her character looked like a real middle-aged woman, and wouldn’t allow any photoshopping either on screen or in the promotional shots.

‘Listen, I hope that in playing Mare [Sheehan] as a middle-aged woman — I will be 46 in October — I guess that’s why people have connected with this character in the way that they have done because there are clearly no filters.’ she told New York Times.

‘She’s a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age and her life and where she comes from.

‘I think we’re starved of that a bit.’

Starring Academy Award , Emmy and Golden Globe -winner Kate Winslet (HBO???s ???Mildred Pierce???), from creator and writer Brad Ingelsby (???The Way Back???), with all episodes directed by Craig Zobel (HBO???s ???The Leftovers???) Subsequently, when director Craig Zebel said he was going to edit her belly area, she hit back: ‘Don’t you dare!’

But the Titanic actress explained that her days of going nude on screen ‘are getting a little bit numbered’.

‘I’m just not that comfortable doing it anymore,’ she said. ‘It’s not even really an age thing, actually. There comes a point where people are going to go, “Oh, here she goes again.”’

Mare of Easttown ended after seven episodes on Sunday but seems unlikely to return for a season two.
