Coverage of Euro 2024 was thrown into chaos hours before the first match of the tournament between Scotland and Germany when a kid shouted a swear word on live TV.

The moment happened shortly after 4pm on Friday June 14, when a Sky News presenter was interviewing football fans at what looked like a pub in the Scottish city of Dunfermline.

During the lively group conversation, the presenter was chatting to a man wearing a bucket hat embossed with ‘Scotland’, to show his pride in his country ahead of the 2024 UEFA European Football Championship.

The man gestured towards a child who was standing on the other side of the Sky presenter, emphasising that the ‘wee guy’ had ‘never seen this before’, after Scotland managed to qualify for the competition in Germany, their opponents in tonight’s match.

‘He was never born when this happened,’ the man added.

The presenter then turned to the young boy, asking him: ‘What were you going to say sorry?’

The football fan burst into laughter, as the presenter hastily took the mic away (Picture: Sky)

As the presenter walked away, the man gave the boy a pat on the head (Picture: Sky)

The child leaned into the mic, shouting without hesitation: ‘F**k you Germany!’

The presenter quickly pulled his mic away, saying to viewers: ‘Oh dear. Apologies for that language,’ as he turned to interview another Scottish football fan.

Of course, TV viewers were quick to express their shock over the unexpected moment, as well as how funny they found the pre-watershed exchange.

‘This is the ONLY kind of nationalism I will accept! 🤣🤣 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 COME ON SCOTLAND!! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿,’ @Femi_Sorry wrote on X.

An X user called John added: ‘8 year old boy interviewed in a Fife pub full of Scots fans on Sky News just then: “F**K YOU GERMANY!” Ah, well. Speak your mind, lad.’

Another named David showed how comical he found the interaction, writing: ‘Watching sky news, 8 year old live in Scotland being interviewed goes on to say “f**k you Germany” 😂😂😂😂.’

One X user called Rich pointed out how the man who had been interviewed before the young boy appeared to show he was ‘proud’ of his statement, as he gave the child a fond pat on head.

‘It’s the look of pride between them after the 💣 has been dropped. 🤣,’ he said.

‘Never change Scotland. Never change,’ Sadhbh tweeted, while Darren added: ‘Moral of the story: Don’t interview Scottish Kids on TV 🤣.’

Euro 2024 can be watched on ITV1 and ITVX.
