Armie Hammer has opened up about the ‘bizarre’ cannibal allegations surrounding him since 2021 as he admitted that he is now ‘grateful’ for the accusations.

The 37-year-old actor best known for Death on the Nile and Call Me By Your Name, was accused of rape, emotional abuse and violence by multiple women in 2021, which he denied.

It was claimed that he had a fetish for cannibalism, as women reported that he made comments about wanting to ‘take a bite’ out of their body parts.

The allegations caused a social media uproar and yet the actor has now claimed in a recent interview that he is grateful he had to go through this fall for public grace.

‘There were things that people were saying about me that just felt so outlandish,’ the actor told Tyler Ramsey on the Painful Lessons podcast

‘Yeah that I was a cannibal, now I’m sort of able to look at it with a sense of distance and perspective and be like, “That’s hilarious.” People called me a cannibal and everyone believed them.

‘They were like “yep, that guy ate people.” Like what? What are you talking about? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people! How am I going to be a cannibal?! Like, it was bizarre.’

‘But here’s what I will say about it. Even in the discrepancies, in whatever it was that people said, whatever it was that happened, I’m now in a place in my life where I’m grateful for every single bit of it.’

He went on to add that since 2021 when the allegations were first made, he has now learnt how to ‘give himself love’ and grow his self-esteem internally.

‘I’m actually at a place where I’m really grateful for it because where I was in my life before all of that stuff happened to me, I didn’t feel good. I never felt satisfied. I never had enough.

‘I was never in a place where  I was happy with myself, where I had self-esteem. I never knew how to give myself love, I never knew how to give myself validation.

‘But I had this job where I was able to get it from so many people that I never needed to learn how to give it to myself.’

He then revealed that he used to rely on social media for this type of confidence boost.

‘If ever I was feeling s****y about myself, I’d go on Instagram and look at the comments under a selfie I posted.’

He then added: ‘But I was a black hole,’ explaining that the confidence boost he felt from these comments would quickly fade.

He then spoke about pain helping him grow as he hoped that his loved ones might experience something that would help them ‘learn’ what he has now learned.

‘It was awful and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy but for the people in my life that I truly love, I hope that some version, preferably smaller than what I went through, would happen to them as well. So they could learn everything that I’ve learned,’ he said.

In May 2023, the sexual assault charges against Hammer were dropped after an investigation.

‘As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt,’ read a statement by the DA office seen by Variety.

The statement went on to add that ‘due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt,’ and would not be going forward with the case.

In 2023, Hammer’s divorce from his wife and mother of his children, Elizabeth Chambers was confirmed after the pair initially split in 2020.

The actor was engaged to 26-year-old IT Consultant Marina Gris, but in January 2024 it was announced that the engagement was called off.
