Warning: spoilers ahead for The Acolyte episode 5.

After 47 years, the Star Wars franchise has just unveiled some of the ‘darkest’ scenes ever in the franchise, with viewers admitting that they’re ‘still in shock’ by what they’ve watched.

Today, episode 5 of the TV series The Acolyte was released on Disney Plus, finally revealing the identity behind the mysterious Sith character hunting down the Jedi.

Qimir (Manny Jacinto), who was initially introduced as a smuggler helping out Mae (Amandla Sternberg) on her missions, turns out to have actually been her villainous Master all along, concealing himself with a terrifying mask that inspired the fan nickname ‘Darth Teeth’.

What’s more, he brutally slaughters several members of the Jedi Order in scenes that have left fans of the show staggered beyond belief.

In the fifth episode of the show – which is set 100 years before the events of the Star Wars prequel film trilogy – Osha (Mae’s twin, also played by Amandla) witnesses the masked Sith kill several of her Jedi allies as they attempt to fight back.

The Sith kills two Jedi at the same time with a bloodthirsty double impale move, before turning his attention to Jecki (Dafne Keen).

Jecki, who’s the young and eager Padawan of Jedi Mater Sol (Lee Jung-jae), goes head-to-head with him in a lightsaber battle that’s been hailed by fans as one of the best they’ve ever seen in Star Wars.

Despite Jecki putting up a brilliant fight, the Sith defeats her in their duel, stabbing her three times after splitting his red lightsaber into two and then revealing his true identity as Qimir after his mask is removed.

Qimir doesn’t show any semblance of remorse about murdering Jecki after Sol points out that she was only a child, as he shrugs and then responds: ‘You brought her here.’

Then when the Jedi Knight Yord (Charlie Barnett) tries to go up against Qimir, the Sith snaps Yord’s neck without hesitation and throws the Jedi’s body to the side on the forest floor.

The Acolyte viewers were not only amazed by the magnificent lightsaber duels, but also horrified by the butchering of the Jedi by Qimir in the episode.

One X user called Jacob called it ‘some of the darkest Star Wars I’ve ever watched’, after ‘absolutely delivering’ on last week’s cliffhanger.

The X account Star Wars Stuff added: ‘That was insanity, some of the darkest Star Wars we’ve ever seen. Episode 5 is both thrilling yet heartbreaking, they really did that? Still in shock.’

‘We just witnessed the most graphic death in all of Star Wars…,’ Vader’s Orders wrote, while Bella stated: ‘Manny Jacinto just delivered one of the best Sith performances I personally feel in the Star Wars franchise 🤯 I was literally shaking from his performance!!!’

A fan called Ben admitted that he was ‘sceptical’ that The Acolyte was going to be able to top the duel in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace that takes place between Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) against Darth Maul (Ray Park).

However, he then added: ‘But not only did they succeed, but the choreography in “Night” is without a doubt some of the best ever put to screen.’

Episode five of The Acolyte, which is titled Night, ends with Mae sneaking on board with Sol by disguising herself as her sister, while an unconscious Osha is found by Qimir. Episode six couldn’t come soon enough!

The Acolyte is available to watch on Disney Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
