Pride month just got better as Thai actors Newyear and Both shared they are officially engaged after a heartfelt proposal which delighted fans.

Thailand made history earlier this month after becoming the first South East Asian country to legalise same-sex marriage.

And one of Thailand’s most famous gay couples, Both and Newyear, celebrated the news in style by making their engagement official now their dreams of getting married have become a reality.

The pair have been together since February 2012 after a sweet Instagram interaction. They also starred as a gay couple in 2021 Thai series Top Secret Together.

The loved-up couple have accumulated a sizeable social media following sincelaunching a joint YouTube channel several years ago that now has over 500,000 followers.

The popular content creators posted a TikTok video of the special relationship milestone in which Both (dressed in a tan coloured suit) proposed to the suited-up Newyear on TikTok. The video has already gained 1.5million views and counting.

In the four-minute video Both surprised Newyear in a hotel room filled with bouquets of red roses. After getting down on one knee and getting the all-important yes, the two shared a few kisses and a sweet embrace.

Over on Instagram they shared some professional snaps to their nearly two million followers.

‘B: Will you marry me? Ny: I said “yes” from the first day we met,’ the caption reads.

Longtime fans of the couple were quick to share their joy at the news which was made all the more meaningful by the recent political developments.

‘I’ve been following you since 2014, and I can’t believe this day is coming! I’M SO HAPPY FOR BOTH OF YOU,’ @myklagusta commented.

‘I’m screaming with happiness, my God, I’m so happy for you my loves,’ @cristilianelemos added. ‘I feel like a super happy bestie to both of them. I can’t stop crying,’ @dann_znn echoed.

Over on X plenty of people expressed their happiness as well.

The pair first showed their commitment to one another in September last year after a low-key engagement in London, months before same-sex marriage equality was achieved in their home country.

The historic legislation passed in the Senate after 400 members of the House of Representatives backed a bill recognising same-sex marriages in a near-unanimous decision back in March.

Plaifah Kyoka Shodladd, member of a parliamentary committee on same-sex marriage told Reuters at the time: ‘Today love triumphed prejudice … after fighting for more than 20 years, today we can say that this country has marriage equality.’
