THQ Nordic has teased the return of Darksiders in a new trailer, as fans hope for a full mainline game led by Strife.
Five years after spin-off Darksiders Genesis, THQ Nordic has announced a new Darksiders game is officially in development.
A teaser trailer for the game, simply titled Darksiders, was revealed during THQ Nordic’s Digital Showcase last week. It’s being developed by Gunfire Games, a studio founded by developers of the original Darksiders games and who created 2018’s Darksiders 3.
The fact this new project isn’t explicitly called ‘Darksiders 4’ suggests it might be some kind of reboot. A description states ‘the Four Horsemen of Darksiders will ride again’, which might mean that all four characters will feature.
Every Darksiders game so far has revolved around a different horseman of the apocalypse, namely War, Death, Fury, and Strife. The latter, however, only led a spin-off in 2019’s Darksiders Genesis, with some fans now hoping Strife will get the full mainline entry treatment.
Some have speculated this could be a remake, but considering the first two Darksiders games have already been remastered for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch, that feels somewhat unnecessary.
Elsewhere in the presentation, THQ Nordic announced a sequel to racing game Wreckfest from developer Bugbear Entertainment. Wreckfest 2 is coming to PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, and will feature a revamped physics engine ‘for even more realistic destruction’, along with fully customisable cars and a new split screen mode.
The next game from Weappy Studio, makers of This Is The Police, also debuted, as 2D platformer The Eternal Life Of Goldman. The hand-drawn 2D animation looks very impressive, as you ‘explore a world which combines legends, fairy tales, and myths.’
The other notable new announcement was a first look at the next game from Little Nightmares developer Tarsier Studios. The trailer strikes the same creepy tone but it’s described as an ‘entirely new vision’ – one that involves a gross talking pig with its intestines hanging out.
The untitled game will get its worldwide reveal during Gamescom Opening Night Live on Tuesday, August 20.
A sequel to Little Nightmares 2 was announced last year, but it will be developed by Supermassive Games. The Little Nightmares IP is owned by Bandai Namco, who decided to continue the series themselves, after Tarsier Studios were acquired by Embracer Group in 2019.
While these are the new game announcements, THQ Nordic’s presentation also included new trailers for Disney Epic Mickey: Rebrushed, Titan Quest 3, and Gothic 1 Remake.
