Drew Barrymore dropped a huge bombshell over one of her most iconic films, revealing there was a secret alternate ending.
The 49-year-old has starred in some of the biggest cinema hits to date, including ET, Scream, Donnie Darko and Charlie’s Angels.
However, during an appearance on her chat show, the Hollywood legend confessed that 50 First Dates, the 2004 flick with Adam Sandler, almost went in a very different direction.
The movie was set in Hawaii and followed womanizing marine veterinarian Henry Roth (Adam) who fell for an art teacher named Lucy Whitmore, but realized that she suffered from a rare condition, anterograde amnesia.
Undeterred, he found a way win her over again every single day, and ended with the pair starting a family, and navigating her condition together.
In a clip from the Drew Barrymore Show, shared on the official Instagram page, the presenter could be seen detailing a very different ending.

Co-host Ross Matthews put Drew in the hot seat, questioning: ‘Have any of your movies ever had a different ending that you changed after focus groups or consulting or feeling different?’
‘Yes,’ she replied. ‘Something that always sticks in my mind is the original ending of 50 First Kisses – as it was called at the time.
‘Yeah, it was a drama set in Seattle. And the original ending was her saying, “You should go and live your life because this is no life here.
‘He goes away, as he does, and he comes back and he walks into the restaurant and he just sits down and says, “Hi, I’m Henry.” And the film ends.’
The audience were clearly taken aback by the news and could be heard gasping in shock as she unpacked the alternate ending – as well as the more dramatic tone.
Thankfully, they released the correct ending of the movie, meaning that this version never saw the light of day.
Fans rushed to the comments in their droves to share their relief over the flick’s ‘perfect’ final few minutes.
Champagnedivo wrote: ‘Love that movie! The ending was perfect that unconditional real love.’

Bearjam4 shared: Es-squeeze meee. That would have probably made it so bummsville. Not so enlightening on love to just like… give up? Sad bananas. Lol.’
ReneeWarner22 agreed: ‘Yes! The ending is way better. Not the one you were talking about Drew!’
As Kathyondy added: ‘My favorite movie!!! I love the ending as it is! So happy it stuck! You and Adam should do more films together! Maybe a sequel?? Yes please!’
50 First Dates isn’t the first time that Drew and Adam have shared the screen, as they also teamed up in The Wedding Singer, in 1998, and once more in 2014’s Blended.
Anyone else ready for a sequel?
