In totally normal movie news, a fake horse has fans on the internet in quite the tailspin despite its co-stars being major Hollywood actors.
As happens with most things that end up meme-machines, it’s certainly not something that could have been predicted, least of all by production company StudioCanal (or maybe they did…?).
However, we find ourselves in the situation where Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh’s highly anticipated film We Live in Time has now distracted fans with a horse.
A carousel house featured on a recently released publicity still of two of Britain’s hottest actors – and fellow Oscar nominees – together, to be exact.
But no one is sighing wistfully over the cute shot of Andrew nuzzling into Florence as they ride a carousel horse together, holding hands, and she laughs.
They are, instead, fully distracted by the horse next to theirs, with its angular bone structure and mouth wide open in a whinny – as well as its, quite frankly, demonic eyes.

We Live in Time may clearly be angled to be a London-set prestige romantic drama ready to both swell and break hearts.
Its first trailer shows Florence’s Almut and Andrew’s Tobias first meeting (when she runs him over), before they go on to navigate life, love and loss.
The film is also written by the award-winning Nick Payne (stage plays Constellations and Sea Wall, as well as films The Sense of an Ending and The Last Letter from Your Lover), and directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn).

But right now all everyone can focus on is the horse, as it’s gone fully viral.
‘The horse is KILLING ME!!!’ exclaimed Gilluis Pérez on X, while Abby H insisted: ‘I want a film solely starring the carousel horse next.’
‘At this point the horse needs to get third billing and a renegotiated contract,’ pointed out US cinema chain Regal – and it’s not wrong.
For this cursed carousel horse has been inserted into every picture reference going, from The Neverending Story’s drowning Artax to the Alien: Romulus poster, predictions for the next horse Beyoncé may ride on an album cover and (impressively seamlessly) artwork from the 2002 animated movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Many memes have been inspired (Picture: X)

The horse has also been replaced by Donkey from Shrek (obvs) and placed over Jack Nicolson as he tears his way through the wall with an axe in The Shining. It’s the same kind of vibe, I guess.
Now fans have had their fun with this prop though, it will be interesting to see if We Live in Time’s next marketing move embraces this obsession or politely sidesteps it for something with a little more gravitas.
The tagline describes the movie as ‘a love story about the times that change us, and the times that make us’.

Alluding to the couple later facing a ‘difficult truth together’, it continues: ‘As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley’s decade-spanning, deeply moving romance.’
We Live in Time is yet to receive an official UK release date although it is slated to premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival in September, before being released by A24 in the US on October 11.
We Live in Time is scheduled for an October release in the US. A UK release date is yet to be confirmed.
