Emily in Paris viewers have accused the hit Netflix series of ‘copying’ a particularly saucy scene from the latest season of Bridgerton.

The fourth season of the rom-com drama hit screens last week and continues to follow Emily (Lily Collins) as she tries to navigate the love triangle between Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount).

For those who are yet to binge the first five episodes, spoilers alert.

The third episode sees Emily and Gabriel finally rekindle their romance after attending a masquerade ball in the French capital.

Although Alfie was ready to declare his love for Emily, she left the event with her French chef neighbour, with the pair heading home in a horse-drawn carriage.

It came after a scene earlier in the episode when Mindy (Ashley Park) even referenced Bridgerton after the carriage arrived at the entrance to the glitzy ball.

Seeing the carriage shaking, she quipped when speaking to Emily: ‘Oh! Someone’s living out their horny Bridgerton fantasies.’

In the final moments of episode four of Bridgerton season 3, which was released earlier this year, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) confessed their feelings for each other before having a heavy make out session in the back of a carriage, which then went even further.

However, when tuning in to Emily in Paris, many complained about the similarities between the scenes in the two series’.

‘I’m sorry. Are we watching Emily in Paris, or Bridgerton?? The ballroom, the shift from a full ballroom to just the two of them, the horse carriage. Who stole what from whom???’ Ava posted on X.

‘If I had a nickel for every time I saw someone make out in a carriage on Netflix this summer, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice!’ Brittany shared.

‘That Bridgerton carriage reference was almost… too timely? Followed almost immediately by the dancing “alone” in the ballroom scene? Like this was clearly insider Netflix baseball since this was taped before this season of Bridgerton was released,’ Mallie added.

However, many others couldn’t get enough, with Sarah writing: ‘’EMILY AND GABRIEL CARRIAGE SCENE NOBODY MOVE!!!’

Speaking to Forbes ahead of the show’s release, Emily in Paris’ executive producer and director of the first three episodes Andy Fleming spoke about the Bridgerton references.

‘There was a Bridgerton joke in there, like we referenced Bridgerton in that,’ he said about Mindy’s mention of the period drama.

‘We’re not going to out, out Bridgerton,’ he added, noting that they ‘dipped our toe in that pond and then went in another direction’.

Also revealing what it was like to film the scene, Lucas said it ‘wasn’t fun to shoot’.

‘It was so noisy and filming on the pavement you don’t hear the lines. It was supposed to be the first time they kissed in a long time, so we were trying to be sexy and passionate while shaking all over the place, but I think it worked out,’ he told Access Hollywood.

Bridgerton and Emily in Paris are streaming on Netflix. The second part of Emily in Paris season 4 will be released on September 12.
