‘Gonna Play for the Tune Squad’: LeBron James Jokes About Not Participating in Tokyo Olympics 2021

The Los Angeles Lakers 2020-21 season came to and following their defeat to the Phoenix Suns. A fatigued LeBron James tried his best for the team, but unfortunately they came up short.

With the off-season starting early for the Lakers, LeBron was asked about his plans, specifically about his Olympics participation. And he had an interesting response to that question.

He said, “Nah, I think I’m gonna play for the Tune Squad this summer instead of the Olympics. That’s my focus on, on trying to beat the MonStars, or the Goon Squad I guess they’re called now. Didn’t have much success versus Suns, so now I’m giving my attention to the Goon Squad in July. Imma let the ankle rest for a month… Hope we see y’all at the match.”

Bron was named among the 57 probables for the USA basketball team. Last year, he had expressed his desire to play, but never committed to the team. “I was told he wants to plan on being able to play, but no one can totally commit under these circumstances,” USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said back in September 2020.

LeBron might have said it as a joke, but it won’t be a surprise if he actually doesn’t play for them. He didn’t play in the previous Olympics as well back in 2016. He last played for Team USA back in 2012 where he won gold and he also had a similar result in 2008.

LeBron James wants to focus on Toon Squad instead

After arguably his most tiresome and grueling season, LeBron will be eager for some rest. This season he missed over 20 games for the first time, showing that he is only human after all. At 36, he is still one of the best in the business, but sadly it didn’t happen for him and his team in the NBA Playoffs. The team has faced a multitude of problems this season, which they will be eager to solve before next season.

But till then, he is firmly focused on his super-hyped upcoming move, Space Jam 2. Releasing in mid-July, it is a sequel of the original which starred Michael Jordan. But it is only a sequel by name as their stories are reportedly not intertwined at all.

Anything that features LeBron always has a lot of attention. So seeing him on the big screen in a leading role for the first time, is guaranteed to be a hit.
