Delta Goodrem has revealed why she’s taken extreme lengths to avoid Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.
The singer, 39, previously starred in Neighbours before launching her music career, with her 2003 debut album Innocent Eyes becoming the second best-selling Australian album of all time.
She later went on to serve as a coach on The Voice Australia from 2012 to 2013 and again from 2015 to 2020.
Despite her long career in the public eye, Delta has revealed how Chris, 47, regularly left her on edge.
Appearing on the ABC series The Assembly with Leigh Sales, Delta was asked if she’d ever been starstruck by another celebrity.
‘Let me tell you some of my embarrassing stories,’ she began.

‘You’ve heard of Coldplay? For some reason, Chris Martin unhinges me, with my ability to speak.’
Delta then revealed how she’d ‘got really awkward’ the few times she’d spoken with the performer and had often made a fool of herself in front of him.
She went on to explain that when she was once having dinner with the late star Olivia Newton-John in Los Angeles, she did her best to avoid speaking to Chris.
After noticing him enter the restaurant, she recalled thinking: ‘I was like, “Oh no. Please don’t notice that we’re here”.’

However not only did Chris notice, but he also pulled her aside and asked why she was avoiding him when they were later in the parking lot.
‘He goes, “Delta, why didn’t you say hi?” and in my head I was thinking, “because I embarrass myself every single time!”.’
She added: ‘I’ve said really weird things to him. Every time.’
In 2016 Delta also revealed Chris was her dream collaborator.
‘I’m always open to collaborations … I love Coldplay, I’m a sucker for the piano. I also like something that’s a bit left or a bit right, it depends on the moment and the song,’ she told The Daily Telegraph.

When being interviewed on the The Assembly, Delta also spoke about her time on The Voice and the intense public scrutiny she faced during that time.
‘When I’d been under attack on The Voice, there was quite a target on me and it didn’t feel justified,’ she said.
‘That was a rough moment, but I look at it like: I’ll never give up, I’ll wait until the storm passes.
‘I’ve just learned to cut it out. I don’t google anything. I just stay true to myself.’
The Assembly airs on ABC in Australia, while The Voice airs on Channel Seven. The Voice UK returns on Saturday to ITV1.
