M.I.A has again left people shocked after throwing her support behind Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election.
The music star, real name Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam, has come under fire in recent years for her views about vaccinations, previously saying she would ‘choose death’ over the Covid-19 vaccine and commented on the conspiracy theory linking 5G to coronavirus.
Over the years she has also become known for sharing her political views publicly, including in 2017 when she endorsed Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn in the general election.
However, she’s now left fans dismayed by endorsing Trump after former candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. made official his support for the former President.
Last week Kennedy Jr. appeared at a Trump rally, telling the crowd that the presidential candidate will ‘make America healthy again’.
Sharing a live stream of the rally on X, she also wrote: ‘Trump is going to ride America through the most challenging 4 years coming pulling out weed, and RFK will inherit America when God is ready to replant and rebuild it righteously.’

However, many of her followers slammed the singer.
‘I love you too death MIA. You’re one of my all-time favourite rappers who is criminally underrated but this ain’t it,’ user Kenny posted on X.
‘As an immigrant who was inspired by your artistic journey, I’m very disappointed. That man supports Trump. That man supports stuff my family has went through. It’s so disrespectful to us immigrants that you support him. I still respect you as an artist, but I’m stll disappointed,’ Revista Okaso wrote.
‘You not American. Your opinion don’t matter. Focus on what’s happing in the UK dynamic,’ another added.

Others called her comments ‘disappointing’ and ‘gutting’, while many have since flooded her latest Instagram post with their disapproval.
‘Incredibly sad and disappointing to know that you’re supporting Trump. You are not the artist you once were,’ Hans wrote.
‘What a complete sell out… I will never support you again,’ Erika shared.
Her comments are a turnaround from 2017, when M.I.A criticised Trump and his administration for having ‘mental disorders’.

Over the past few years, the singer has received backlash for countless controversial statements, including comparing InfoWars host Alex Jones’s conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook shooting to celebrities ‘pushing’ Covid vaccines.
Earlier this year she also launched Ohmni, a clothing brand that features a ‘tin foil hat’ which claims to block 5G waves from entering people’s bodies.
In 2016 she spoke to the New York Times about making the decision to sacrifice fame and money for speech.
‘I had the choice to shut my mouth and not be political in order to catapult my fame and popularity and my bank balance. But that’s not the choice I made,’ she said.
