‘Dark and depraved’ TV series with massive Rotten Tomatoes score finally lands on Netflix-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

TV fans have been left overjoyed as iconic series Unreal has finally been added to Netflix, nearly 10 years after it premiered.

The fictionalized program first aired in 2015 and followed the cast and crew of dating show Everlasting – similar to the Bachelor franchise – and the shocking levels that those behind the scenes would stoop to in order to create jaw-dropping television every week.

Constance Zimmer led the cast as terrifyingly cut-throat executive producer Quinn King, alongside Shiri Appleby as her equally ruthless producer, Rachel Goldberg, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman as production member Jay Carter and Craig Bierko as show boss Chet Wilton.

Season one opened with the gang preparing for the first episode of Everlasting’s 13th season, introducing us to ‘suitor’ Adam Cromwell (Freddie Stroma) and the selection of women hoping to win his heart.

Although it is definitely fictional, Marti Noxon co-created Unreal with Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, who served as a producer on six seasons of the Bachelor, which definitely may change how you watch similar franchises in the future…

It landed on Netflix in the US earlier this month but unfortunately, the show is not available to stream on the UK platform just yet – instead, Amazon Prime users are able to purchase some episodes.

Fans have clearly been loving all the drama as the entire series has an impressive 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first season boasts a whopping 98% from delighted critics, and 94% from those watching on from home.

Casey S praised it as the ‘best show since Breaking Bad. It’s like a feminist psychological thriller with all the entertainment of reality TV.’

‘Dark, disgusting, and depraved,’ an impressed fan commended. ‘Also, brilliant, original, complex, and incredibly believable.’

Eden S described Constance’s portrayal of Quinn as ‘flawless and delicious’, while many, many more raved about the ‘dark and twisted’ themes.

Over on Twitter, a user known only as Ariely urged: ‘Do yourself a favor and go watch Unreal on Netflix, you won’t regret it! it’s so unique and mind blowing, one of the best shows of all times!’

‘UnREAL is now on Netflix and it has one of the best first seasons of a tv show I’ve ever seen,’ Paige agreed.

‘Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer are such a beautifully toxic pair leading the charge in this bts look at running a reality tv dating show.’

Constance played the part of merciless Quinn to absolute perfection across the show’s four-season run, and was the first choice for the role – but turned it down ‘multiple times’.

Bosses then went with another actress but weren’t wowed by the footage so went back to the Newsroom icon, who was finally won over by the ‘darkness and desperation’ of the character.

She previously told the Los Angeles Times of Quinn: ‘I would just hope it shows strong women that it’s okay to be strong.

‘She’s a woman who is flawed and has struggles and is insecure but is at the same time confident and independent, and it’s incredible that this is what I get to play at this time in my life.

‘There’s so much more about her that we have yet to learn.’

Unreal is available to stream on Netflix US now.
