Our beloved Power Stone returns at last (Capcom)

Power Stone 1 and 2 are part of the newly announced Capcom Fighting Collection 2, as the latest two Nintendo Direct presentations reveal plenty of surprises.

As rumoured earlier in the month, Nintendo has held another Indie World and Partner Showcase presentation, with a back-to-back premiere that lasted around 50 minutes – with lots of updates and reveals for upcoming third party games on Switch.

Nintendo made it clear before the presentations that there would be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor, but there was still plenty of surprises, in what continues to be a surprisingly good year for the Switch, despite its age.

In all, the Nintendo Direct had 45 announcements, from a free Balatro update, including crossovers with The Witcher and Dave The Diver; to a shadow drop for Pizza Tower; and a new Capcom Fighting Collection that includes Power Stone 1 and 2.

Balatro: Friends Of Jimbo

The biggest announcement during the Indie World presentation was that indie sensation Balatro has a new, free update, available from today.

With it comes crossovers – including music, animations, and designs – from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Among Us, Vampire Survivors, and Dave The Diver.

Pizza Tower on Switch

Another major announcement was that highly acclaimed platformer Pizza Tower, which came out last year, will be available on the Switch (but no other console formats), also starting today. Heavily inspired by Wario Land, the PC original was one of the best games of last year.

Europa

Indie publisher Future Friends Games revealed the release date for Europa during its Indie World presentation. The impressive looking action adventure game is set to come out on October 11 and there is a demo available today.

Sea Of Stars: Throes Of The Watchmaker

Sea Of Stars fans will be pleased to know that there’s a free update scheduled for spring 2025. It’s called Throes Of The Watchmaker and forces Valere and Zale to play by new rules for their powers to manifest.

Tetris Forever

The Partner Showcase was also surprisingly good, with Nintendo announcing a new Tetris collection, called Tetris Forever, which celebrates the classic’s 40th anniversary.

Tetris Forever includes 15 different games from the series, including the 1988 Famicom version and Tetris 2 + Bombliss. It also includes a new game called Tetris Time Warp, where you jump between game styles from across the franchise.

Star Overdrive

Another highlight was the reveal of Star Overdrive, a sci-fi adventure where you fly around on a hoverboard, between battles with aliens. Star Overdrive will launch as a timed exclusive on Nintendo Switch some time in 2025.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2

The Partner Showcase also announced Capcom Fighting Collection 2, which is set to come out in 2025 on Switch, PlayStation, and PC. It will include eight Capcom fighting games, including Capcom Vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 Pro and GameCentral favourites Power Stone 1 and 2 – the first time they’ve been re-released since the PSP.

Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics

Speaking of fighting bundles, Capcom also announced that digital pre-orders are now open on its upcoming Marvel Vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, which comes out September 12.

However, physical copies of the collection, which includes the same seven fighting titles, won’t be available until November 22.

Yakuza Kiwami

One of the bigger surprises was Sega’s remake of the very first Yakuza game coming to Switch. Originally released in Japan in 2016, it seems late very late in the day for Sega to suddenly bring it to Switch now. A bundle of the two Wii era MySims games from EA is similarly odd and could be an indication of both publishers starting to forge closer relationships with Nintendo, ahead of the Switch 2 launch.

Castlevania Dominus Collection

Three Nintendo DS Castlevania titles are also coming to the Switch, with the Castlevania Dominus Collection. Available today, the bundle includes Dawn Of Sorrow, Portrait Of Ruin, and Order Of Ecclesia.

Konami is also set to release the HD remaster of Suikoden 1 and 2 on March 6, 2025, but it will also be available on Xbox One and Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as PC.
