Nicole Kidman is starring in the Netflix series The Perfect Couple, and ahead of its release in September, fans have pointed out she may just have a type when it comes to selecting roles.

The celebrated Hollywood actor has proved her acting chops in multiple iconic titles including Moulin Rouge and Australia, but her undeniable talent has been put to use perfecting a particular type of character as of late, some viewers have claimed.

In the trailer released for her latest TV project, we learn that a shocking death derails a lavish high-society wedding and turns everyone into a suspect.

In the upcoming murder mystery based on a New York Times best-selling book, Nicole plays rich novelist and mother-of-the-groom Greer Garrison Winbury, who is married to Tag Winbury, played by Liev Schreiber.

It’s fair to say Tag comes off a little bit suspicious in the teaser, while Greer’s face communicates that more is going on beneath the surface than is being shared. While racy content is suggested with plenty of kissing, physical touch, and Tag even confidently stating ‘a healthy sex life’ is what has led to a happy 29-year marriage in the short clips.

After watching the selected scene snippets unfold ahead of the future six-parter, fans have summarised it could reflect previous offerings from the star.

In recent years, you could have also watched Nicole, 57, in Big Little Lies as affluent Celeste – she is one of the suspects in the murder of her husband Perry [Alexander Skarsgård], or in The Undoing, where she plays sought-after therapist Grace, the partner of Jonathan [Hugh Grant], who tries to figure out who killed Elene [Matilda De Angelis].

The Perfect Couple also stars Eve Hewson as Amelia Sacks, Sam Nivola as Will Winbury, Billy Howle as Benji Winbury, Liev Schreiber as Tag Winbury, Dakota Fanning as Abby Winbury, Jack Reynor as Thomas Winbury (Picture: SEACIA PAVAO/NETFLIX)

Also in December, the erotic thriller Babygirl will be released and follows Romy (Nicole), a high-powered New York business executive who gets into a very steamy affair with the company’s new intern (Harris Dickinson).

‘Nicole Kidman has really conquered the market with these modern takes on rich people whodunit,’ remarked YouTube user AndrewMark2783.

Anonymous-ql4ph added: ‘Another role where Nicole plays a vaguely waspy wife with good hair n clothes and a bewildered on her face the entire movie! We’ve seen this so many times from here.’

‘Is Nicole Kidman being typecast? Cause why every TV role she has today was as a distressed upper-class wife in the middle of a criminal scandal involving her suspicious husband??’ typed Muliah78. Bookworm-ye9qi remarked: ‘Nicole Kidman has been making the same movie for 15 years.’

Nobody sips from a glass of wine while tightening their cardigan and looking out at the horizon with a frazzled expression quite like Nicole, right?

On X, Scarlett Nuvo wrote: ‘Nobody ever talks about how typecast Nicole Kidman is…she’s a great actor but she definitely plays the same person every role.’

Account PerfectPiece responded: ‘Disgruntled quiet crazy housewife but she does so good ://.’ ‘Rightttt…but she def mastered that s**t,’ they agreed.

Although she does have a tendency to play rich women very well, they all have very different character arcs and occupations.

Her agent certainly keeps her booked and busy with other types of characters too.

Earlier this year, she starred in Family Affair, which received mixed reviews. It followed obnoxious film star Chris Cole (The Iron Claw’s Efron), who gets involved with his put-upon assistant Zara (Joey King)’s mother, played by Nicole, obviously leaving her less than impressed.

The Perfect Couple premieres on 5 September, only on Netflix.
