A fan-favourite reality show from the noughties is reportedly being rebooted after 20 years.

Beloved series Faking It ran on Channel 4 from 2000 until 2006, for 30 episodes across seven seasons.

It followed an ordinary person being taught to ‘fake it’ in a profession entirely different to their own across a number of weeks.

They’d then compete against an expert in that field, before a panel of judges would give their verdict on who was ‘faking it’.

Episodes included a ‘straight-laced cellist’ being transformed into ‘a hedonistic DJ club chick’, a burger vendor trained into a top chef, and a ballet dancer into a wrestler.

Some of the most memorable transformations included lawyer George being reimagined as a Garage MC, and punk rocker Chris Sweeney ‘faking it’ as an orchestra conductor.

Faking It not only won loyal fans and critical acclaim, but even two Bafta awards.

And now, the iconic series is said to be returning.

According to Broadcast, Faking It is ‘set to return’ with Channel 5 and production company Banijay ‘primed to dust off’ the reality format.

Over the years Faking It has been off screens, fans have been begging for it to come back, and reminiscing on how good it was.

@Brickie78 wrote on Reddit: ‘Unlike many other “reality” shows that would come after, this was notable for not having the emphasis on wacky characters and personality clashes but followed a normal person trying to master new skills and enter a different world.

‘The end result was something much more interesting to watch, the drama from how well they could learn the skills and lingo, and the participants seemed generally to take a genuine interest.’

‘Always loved this show, Wish it had managed to inspire me,’ @kildog said.

@DollyDaydreem added: ‘This series was absolutely brilliant and really genuinely heart-warming. I loved the burlesque episode, and the drag episode was great too.’

Metro.co.uk has approached Channel 5 for comment.

Faking It is available to stream on Channel 4.
