Husband’s heartache as ‘caring’ vet, 29, drowns in car with her two dogs after telling 999 operator ‘I’m sinking’
A HUSBAND has revealed his heartache after a “caring” vet drowned in her car with her two dogs after telling a 999 operator “I’m sinking.”
Heike Mojay-Sinclar, 29, dialled emergency services on December 8, 2018 to say she was trapped up to her waist in a ford at Doles Lane, Derbyshire.

Five minutes later she told the operator the water in her Honda Civic had reached her chest before the call ended, Derby Coroner’s Court heard.
Her husband, Chester Mojay-Sinclare, said the world had lost an “empathetic, loving and caring” woman who he met at the age of 18.
He told Derbyshire Live: “I was staying in a youth hostel, and I was searching for a job and a place to stay.
“She visited the hostel with three friends on holiday. It was love at first sight.
“We went for a drink at a bar and played pool. We had a couple of days together and then she had to go back and I stayed. But she came back about two weeks later to stay with me for a week and that was that.”
Speaking about their love for dogs, the heartbroken husband said: “She really wanted a dog, she twisted my arm – I love dogs now.
“We got Nibs when we lived in London and later moved to Knebworth.

“She really loved animals, she would always go above and beyond in her job – she got promoted to head vet at a vets in Islington.
“On one occasion someone brought in a puppy and said they had found it abandoned in the woods. They kept it and waited for someone to collect it, but no one ever came. That’s how we got Gus.”
Mr Mojay-Sinclare added: “She had this spirit and energy for life, she was such an empathetic and loving, caring person.
“She was so intelligent as well. She was the sort of person it was always hard not to like, she had that energy about her.
“We had a lovely life, two lovely dogs – no children yet, that was coming later. Those 11 years we had – every day got better and better, every year.”
The inquest heard Mrs Mojay-Sinclare left her home in Hertfordshire at 7.25pm and was due to celebrate a birthday with pals.
She was due to arrive at a cottage to meet friend at 10pm, but called 999 at 9.36pm to say she was trapped in a ford.
FAMILY TORN APART
Heike told the operator she was trapped in her car in Ashbourne, and was unable to see.
She told the call handler: “I am sinking”.
Firefighters were scrambled to three fords, but couldn’t see see Mrs Mojay-Sinclare’s car.
Crews waded into the floodwater which was “fast flowing”, a fire station manager said.
He said: “Crews were up to their shoulders in water and with wading poles searched from bank right to bank left and did not pick up anything.”
“The poles would have missed the roof as it had dropped below the river bottom it was traversing.”
One member of the team was able to find a car underfoot submerged in the water.

Her car had “dopped into a hole” in the “deeper part” of the water, the inquest was told.
The court heard that other people had become trapped at the ford previously.
The road where Mrs Mojay-Sinclare died is now closed, and the only people who have access are those who own land on the lane, the inquest was told.
Her body and those of her dogs were found inside. A post-mortem gave her cause of death as drowning.
