Catfish And The Bottlemen have enraged fans by cancelling a gig at the last minute.

Their Irish promoter made the announcement tonight on behalf of the group, saying they were unable to perform due to illness.

MCD Productions posted a statement from the Welsh band just after 6.45pm, about 15 minutes before doors were due to open at the RDS Simmonscourt venue in Dublin.

The band said: ‘We regret to inform you that tonight’s show is cancelled due to artist illness.

‘Refunds are available from point of purchase. Apologies to all the fans who have travelled to the show today and for any inconvenience caused.’

The post did not specify the illness or who was unwell.

Reacting to the post on X, fans blasted the rockers for the ‘absolute joke’ of pulling out of the gig at such short notice.

‘Are they going to cover the cost of transport and/or hotel stays in Dublin tonight aswell lads?’, wrote RodriEnjoyer.

‘Surely to god this call could have been made earlier than this with people travelling, and absolute joke’, tweeted royb076.

Echoing his rage, dyl_234 wrote: ‘Spent £500+ on hotels, travel and tickets – for this to be issued 10mins before the show. Absolute disgrace’.

Having been ready for the show to begin, aiskennedy3 replied: ‘Got the notification while walking to the venue. Disgrace to cancel at the time the event starts.’

Catfish And The Bottlemen formed in 2007 and released their debut album, The Balcony, in 2016, which reached number 10 in the UK Albums Chart.

Comprising of Van McCann and Benji Blakeway, and with past members including Jon Barr, Billy Bibby, Bob Hall, and Johnny Bond, the indie stars have previously won BBC Music Introducing’s Artist of the Year.

In 2016, they also took home the Brit Award for best British breakthrough act.

As their tour continues and provided illnesses are avoided, Catfish And The Bottlemen are due to travel to Australia and New Zealand in September for several gigs, before playing shows in the US throughout October and November.

The indie rockers, known for the songs Longshot and Showtime, are next due to perform in Europe in 2025, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on August 1 and London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 3.

Catfish And The Bottleman aren’t the first artist to catch heat for cancelling a show this week.

Fans of Chappell Roan were livid in light of her cancelling concerts in Paris and Amsterdam, stating that she was ‘heartbroken’ to do so.

In a statement shared with fans earlier this week, the Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker wrote on X: ‘Due to scheduling conflicts, I have had to make the extremely hard decision to cancel my Paris and Amsterdam shows.’

She added: ‘I have rescheduled my Berlin show to 23 September. I am so sorry & very disappointed. I promise I will be back. I’m heartbroken. Thank you for understanding.’

In response, however, many fans were anything but understanding, given that the shows were due to take place on September 3 and 4.

People were also suspicious of her timing, given that the VMAs take place in September, where she is nominated and expected to perform.

Hitting out, AB0UTL0U wrote: ‘oh “scheduling conflicts” is always a pretty way of saying “we found something more interesting for my career than a little European show”.’

X user poisonivys13 also ranted: ‘(lemme preface: not about chappell specifically but a wider convo) i will never understand constantly cancelling shows for “scheduling conflicts” your show was scheduled first and your fans booked time off work, arranged transport, hotels etc. maybe stick to your schedule idk’.

Chappell has been the talk of the internet for weeks, not only after her songs blew up on TikTok, but also after she shared a candid video requesting boundaries and expressing her annoyance when people expect her to want to take photos with them.

While Chappell was defended by many for explaining her limits, others urged her to show more ‘respect’.
