This is not a Switch 2 (Nintendo)

A reliable insider has backed up rumours of an imminent new Nintendo hardware reveal but it’s not what fans have been hoping for.

While almost everything has been leaked out about the PS5 Pro over the last year or so we still know virtually nothing about the Switch 2, just that it’ll be announced sometime before April.

There’s been intense speculation about when exactly that announcement will come, with recent suggestions pointing towards an online event in September. Now, a reliable leaker has confirmed that a Nintendo hardware reveal will take place this month, but it’s not the Switch 2.

According to leaker billbil-kun, the hardware being announced is simply a new bundle featuring the existing Nintendo Switch OLED Model and a copy of last year’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Although they were already one of the most reliable insiders, billbil-kun has just been proven correct about their PS5 Pro information, so there’s every reason to believe them about this – especially as it’s exactly the sort of thing you’d expect Nintendo to do.

According to their sources, the new bundle will include a white OLED console, a download code for the game, and three months of Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The console is apparently not a special edition, just a regular white version.

Since billbil-kun is French they can’t confirm if the exact same bundle will be available in the US, but they do suggest that they will be getting some kind of new hardware bundle. No UK price is given but in Europe it will cost €349 (£294).

Although they do not know exactly when the bundle will be announced or released, billbil-kun suggests it will be out before mid-October and that it is likely to be announced on either September 23 or October 3.

They don’t specifically mention anything about a Nintendo Direct, but they do suggest the Switch 2 reveal rumours are wrong, so the implication is that there’ll be a more everyday Direct in the next few weeks – perhaps focusing on upcoming games and revealing the bundle at the same time.

Unfortunately, this does seem all too believable. Given how busy Nintendo’s line-up is this year, with Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom, Super Mario Jamboree, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership, it did seem as if announcing the Switch 2 at the same time would distract too much from them, and encourage people not to buy a Switch console this Christmas.

Assuming this information is correct that seems to remove any last chance of a Switch 2 reveal this year. The only possible hope may be some sort of tease at The Game Awards in December, but it’s extremely unlikely that Nintendo would reveal anything substantial at a third party event.

It is Nintendo though, so nothing is ever out of the question. But the smart money would now be on a Switch reveal sometime early next year.
