Some pretty weird stuff can happen when streamers decide to do subathons – a broadcast that doesn’t end until a set time (usually weeks or months) or new fans stop subscribing to the channel.
Earlier this year we saw one streamer live in a rotating box for days on end during his subathon, and one who ended up setting his kitchen on fire after being live for 46 days straight.
FaZe Clan, the esports and content creator organisation, is currently undertaking a company-wide subathon, and three of its members came up with the idea to bring along a Kanye West impersonator to spice things up a bit.
Ronaldo, Max, and Lacy are among the FaZe members who are participating in the subathon, and hired someone to act like Kanye West.
Not only that, but this fake Kanye West also had several bodyguards alongside him, adding to the realism of it all.
A clip of the stream has gone viral on Twitter, which shows just how easy it is to get free stuff from McDonald’s, if you’re Kanye West.
In the video Ronaldo, Max, Lacy, and the Kanye West impersonator hangs back while a bodyguard confidently goes up the the cashier and demandingly says:
‘Excuse me. Excuse me. Mr. Kanye West would like a cheeseburger on the house, please,’ before repeating that it will be ‘on the house’.
The streamers then told the bodyguard to add two McFlurrys to the free order, while laughing in the background.
To their surprise, it worked, as they were given everything they ordered for free. Although the bodyguard did end up giving the cashier a T-shirt.
The streamer trio also walked with the impersonator outside on the street in Hollywood, which unsurprisingly ended up with a big gathering of people wanting to see who they thought was the real Kanye West.
The actual Kanye West has interacted with streamers in the past, so it’s not too far-fetched. Although the most memorable incident was when he got into a feud with Twitch star Kai Cenat, when the streamer complained about being sent giant-sized YZY joggers.
Additionally, earlier this year actor Kevin Hart and comedian Druski did a stream with Kai Cenat, which became the biggest show on Twitch and broke his viewership record of 721,000.
Streamers are collaborating with mainstream celebrities more and more, to promote themselves and grow their channels.
While it’s not the real Kanye West in this case, it’s still a clever way of getting attention, without anyone getting upset.
