The National Television Awards 2024 returned last night with a bang to celebrate the biggest and the best of British TV.

There were a total of 17 gongs up for grabs, with the likes of Stacey Solomon, Davina McCall and the controversy-stricken Strictly Come Dancing among the winners.

It was an evening of glitz and glamour, with Holly Willoughby rocking an old Hollywood-style dress as she reunited with her This Morning co-stars, while Corrie’s Lucy Fallon dazzled as she showed off her baby bump.

Mischief was also in the air with Brassic’s Ryan Sampson shocking his co-star Michelle Keegan with a cheeky flash and Bradley Walsh attempting to tackle Ant and Dec.

Meanwhile, in the most poignant moment at the NTAs, Kate Garraway brought her children Darcey and Billy on stage and dedicated her award to her late husband Derek Draper.

The ITV drama was one of the big winners of the night, taking home three awards: Best Drama Performance for Toby Jones, the Impact Award and New Drama.

During the acceptance speech for the Impact Award, actress Monica Dolan used her platform to raise awareness of the ongoing harsh realities for those affected by what has been deemed the greatest miscarriage of justice in British history.

The post office scandal saw hundreds of branch managers given criminal convictions when faulty accounting software made it look as though cash was missing from their sites.

‘Nothing has changed,’ she stated before urging the nation and Westminster to take action and support the wrongly convicted postmaster who still haven’t been paid.

Kate Garraway’s dedication to Derek Draper

Kate Garraway dedicated her award to her late husband Derek Draper, calling for more support for carers as she collected her gong.

She completed a hat-trick in the best-authored documentary category, winning for Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story, which followed the final year of Draper’s life before he died in January aged 56 after a lengthy battle with the long-term effects of Covid.

As she brought her daughter and son forward to stand beside her on stage, she reflected on how they are halfway through the first year of ‘firsts’ without Draper, saying: ‘It’s so strange to be here – this one’s for you Derek, absolutely.’

The Good Morning Britain star thanked her team who helped create the documentary series and praised carers across the country, saying: ‘This one is for all those people who care.’

Stacey Solomon’s win after taking son as date

Stacey Solomon’s plus-one to the NTAs was her 16-year-old son Zachary, who she welcomed aged 18 with her former partner Dean Cox.

In an emotional Instagram statement, Stacey said Zachary had ‘been by my side’ since the start of her showbiz journey and described him as her ‘rock.’

The former X Factor star, 34, picked up the first prize of the he night for her reality show Sort Your Life Out.

It beat Clarkson’s Farm, Gogglebox, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live and The Yorkshire Vet in the factual entertainment category.

Stacey thanked the families who opened up their homes and hearts to her for the show as she collected the prize.

Holly Willoughby made a dazzling return to the spotlight with her first red carpet appearance in six months.

The former This Morning host, 43, who stepped down from the show 11 months ago, has been keeping a low profile since Dancing On Ice ended earlier this year.

While she walked the carpet alone, Holly later caught up with her former This Morning co-stars, enjoying sweet reunions with Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond.

She placed a sweet kiss on Dermot’s cheek before going in for a hug, later sharing a giggle with Alison, who placed an arm around her waist.

Holly was invited to the NTAs to present the coveted Bruce Forsyth entertainment award, with nominees including Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show, The Masked SingerThe Graham Norton Show, and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Davina McCall said she felt ‘so privileged’ to work as a TV presenter as she collected the Special Recognition Award at the NTAs.

The broadcasting veteran has fronted shows including Big Brother, The Million Pound Fortune, The Biggest Loser, Your Mum My Dad and Long Lost Family.

After a compilation video of some of her presenting highlights was shown, the 56-year-old took to the stage to thank her team and broadcasters ITV and Channel 4 for supporting her across her career.

Davina said she ‘loved’ her job before joking that she knows she has presented ‘some turkeys’ over the years.

She also thanked her ‘menopause warriors’ and said her work with menopause feels like a ‘gift’ to her as it has given her so much.

Ant and Dec winning yet again

No challengers have managed to topple Ant and Dec off their TV kings’ throne as their winning streak continued at the NTAs.

The I’m A Celebrity presenters, both 48, won the TV presenter prize for a historic 23rd year in a row, seeing off tough competition from Alison Hammond, Claudia Winkleman, Bradley Walsh and Stacey Solomon.

However, one contender – The Chase’s Bradley – pretended to be disgruntled and tackled the Geordie duo on their way to collect the gong in a hilarious moment.

After fending off Bradley, And and Dec accepted the award, saying: ‘Thank you – it’s really hard to put into words just how this feels and what it means to us that you take the time to vote for us.’

Strictly winning despite controversies

Strictly Come Dancing manged to snag one of the big awards of the night (Picture: Joe Maher/Getty Images for the NTA’s)

Strictly Come Dancing has been mired in controversy this year after allegations about the alleged treatment of contestants.

The BBC launched a probe after Amanda Abbington made allegations about Giovanni Pernice, which he vehemently denies, while Graziano Di Prima left the show after allegedly ‘kicking’ Zara McDermott.

But despite the ongoing drama, Strictly secured the Talent Show gong at the NTAs, beating  MasterChef, Britain’s Got Talent, The Great British Bake Off and The Voice UK.

Co-host Tess Daly thanked all the fans who voted for them, saying the win is a ‘wonderful gift’ ahead of the 20th anniversary series kicking off this Saturday.

Fellow host Claudia Winkleman also praised the ‘most wonderful team’ behind the programme and the ‘brilliant celebrities who take part’, adding: ‘This means everything.’
