BBC presenter Jay Blades has been charged with engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour against his estranged wife, Lisa Marie Zbozen.

According to West Mercia Police, The Repair Shop host, 54, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday morning with one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship.

He was bailed to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Friday, October 11. Court documents show his alleged behaviour included physical and emotional abuse.

West Mercia Police said it launched an investigation after being called on May 3.

Zbozen, 43, announced her separation from Blades in an emotional Instagram post earlier this year only 18 months after their intimate wedding ceremony.

Later the fitness instructor thanked her followers for their support through this difficult time.

In May she also uploaded a cryptic poem which spoke about ‘treating yourself kindly’.

Elsewhere it was reported that Blades had taken a step back from Repair Shop filming to deal with the breakdown of his marriage and the recent ‘murder’ of his uncle which left him ‘so messed up’.

The furniture restorer was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the late Queen Elizabeth II’s 2021 Birthday Honours for his services to craft.

He has presented the popular BBC reality series The Repair Shop since 2017 and it was even nominated for a National Television Award earlier this week.

He has also hosted Money for Nothing, Jay Blades’ Home Fix and Jay and Dom’s Home Fix.

Blades and Zbozen married on the grounds of a beachfront villa in Barbados on November 22, 2022 and the ceremony was described as ‘perfect’ by the TV personality.

‘We had our closest family there, the weather held out and everything worked out so well,’ Blades told Hello magazine at the time.

‘Once you get to a certain age, you realise what’s actually important on the day – and that is having the people around you that love you for who you are. So we made the day our day,’ Lisa added.

Blades was previously married but split from his first wife in 2015. The former couple share a 17-year-old daughter.
