A reunion show between 80s rock band Jane’s Addiction ended in disaster after lead vocalist Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro before getting dragged off stage.

The band – behind hits such as Jane Says and Mountain Song – commenced their reunion tour earlier this year, making it the first time they have all been on stage together in 14 years.

Unfortunately, the honeymoon period was shortlived as, just four months into the tour, the rock group devolved into unbridled chaos during their Boston show on Friday night after an evening of brewing tension.

During the 11th song of the set, 1988 hit Ocean Size – out of a typical 14 or 15 tracks – videos from the concert show Farrell aggressively grunting at the audience before turning his grunting to Navarro.

Farrell then approached Navarro and screamed in his face as he shoved him to the side. He then continued his verbal assault as he forcefully pushed forward into Navarro’s personal space, blocked only by Navarro’s arm on his chest.

In the kerfuffle, he also landed a punch on the guitarist before crew members got involved and told Farrell to stop. But Farrell remained agitated as he was dragged off stage by crew and bassist Eric Avery as the stage lights were lowered.

The remaining band members then wrapped the show up early in a decidedly more calm manner.

There are still 15 tour dates remaining although it is unclear if they will still be going ahead. Jane’s Addiction is yet to publicly address the incident.

In the meantime, fans have had a lot to say on social media about the whole debacle, including plenty of Oasis comparisons considering the recently-reunited Gallagher brothers’ notorious past on-stage behaviour.

‘Some folks paid for Jane’s Addiction but got Oasis instead,’ @rmakichuk added.

‘Saw Jane’s Addiction live many years ago and they brought down the house. Tough to see them go out like this,’ @rogueclown619 said.

Some are concerned this could spell the end of the band. ‘think I just saw the last Jane’s Addiction show,’ @jhutchings27 wrote.

The band initially got together in 1985 and went through their first break-up in 1991.

In a 2018 interview, both Farrell and Navarro opened up about why the initial breakdown happened all those years ago.

‘The breakup was based on emotional reasons,’ Farrell told Guitar World.

‘I felt that I couldn’t go on expressing ideas because they were getting constantly knocked down. Everything I brought up was looked at with disdain, negativity.

‘We were at the top—the top of our game, the top of the world. But artistically, I had run up against a wall. I just needed to go in a different direction. I wasn’t going to smash through the wall.

‘I wasn’t going to try to climb over the wall. I would just simply walk in a different direction. And I knew I’d be okay, but I wish it never had to come to that.’

On the flip side, Navarro added: ‘The “why” isn’t the big mystery to me. We all know why [referring to Farrell’s past with drugs].’

He continued: ‘What’s unusual is that we never talked about it. I know that I went home and slammed a bunch of coke and heroin, and I know those guys did too, and we never picked up a phone again.’
