Dick Van Dyke skipped out on a planned appearance at the Emmys last night after previously being announced as a presenter.

Some of the biggest names in Hollywood gathered at the Peacock Theater in LA on Sunday for the annual bash, where stars from Hacks, The Bear, Shōgun and Netflix’s Baby Reindeer took home a haul of trophies.

Earlier this month, the 98-year-old was confirmed to present an award alongside Viola Davis, Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, Martin Sheen, Jean Smart, Joshua Jackson and many more.

However, the Mary Poppins star was not among those in the mix at the ceremony, which was hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy.

He was the only presenter not in attendance but it is not clear why he decided to pull out at the last minute.

Dick’s absence comes just after he made history as the oldest Daytime Emmy winner ever – and celebrated with a jig on the red carpet.

The screen icon, who has also starred in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Night at the Museum and Diagnosis: Murder, took home outstanding guest performer in a drama series gong for his stint in Days of Our Lives.

He played amnesiac Timothy Robicheaux in the long-running soap opera, but only accepted the role after a friend suggested that he take part.

‘I said great and it snowballed into this…,’ he enthused. ‘I’m 98 years old. Can you believe it?’

Dick won his previous Daytime Emmy in 1984, thanks to his role in CBS Library – which joins his four Primetime Emmys, a Golden Globe, a Tony and a Grammy.

If he lands an Oscar, he will officially become a member of the EGOT club…

The latest addition to his trophy cabinet means that Dick is the oldest Daytime Emmy winner – and the oldest actor to ever be nominated.

In a video making the rounds on social media, he was seen dancing away on the red carpet to celebrate his latest milestone.

‘I feel like a spy from nighttime television,’ he added. ‘I’m the oldest nominee in history. I can’t believe it. I was playing old men all my life.

‘If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Dick’s reps for a comment.
