Tennis queen Serena Williams is storming through every match at the French Open 2021. She recently picked up a win over compatriot Danielle Collins in a hard-fought third-round battle 6-4, 6-4.

Consequently, the three-time Roland-Garros champion has also closed business for people who doubted her. She is now one of the biggest favorites to lift the Suzanne-Lenglen trophy this year.

Serena Williams on growing talent in the WTA Tour

The 39-year-old American Serena Williams debuted at Roland-Garros in 1998; it is her 19th time playing on the Parisian clay this year. In all this time, she faced many opponents she admired, and now, she has replaced them.

“It’s an interesting position to be in because I’ve been in that position, too, where I’ve played people that I really admired, but at the same time, I wanted to win the match. The tables are turned,” Serena said.

But the shift has decidedly not lessened her hunger to win. Moreover, the owner of 73 career titles believes she can do what her opponents can do.

Serena continued, “So now, I feel like that’s the same situation, but they want to win. Then they have nothing to lose. They just are hitting lines. You have to just realize that you can hit the lines, too.”

Furthermore, Serena opened up on how the WTA Tour has become more challenging than ever. Despite the exit of many top players, she still considers there are players in the draw to stop her.

“There’s still a lot of matches, a lot of great players, as we can see,” she said. “There’s so much depth in this game now; it doesn’t matter if you’re playing in the first round or not; you really have to fight for every match, and nothing comes easy.”

Hopefully, the current World No.8 will keep fighting and bring home the long-awaited 24th Grand Slam title.
