Hollywood star Angelina Jolie has marked her bond with her 16-year-old daughter in the sweetest way after the pair worked together on Broadway show The Outsiders.

Earlier this year the Oscar winner, 49, celebrated the opening of The Outsiders on which she was a lead producer after her daughter, Vivienne, expressed her love for the musical.

To commemorate the joint endeavour – for which the pair attended the premiere together in April dressed up in their finest – the mum-of-six shared that she and Vivienne got matching tattoos based on the musical by S.E. Hinton’s novel.

‘I got “Stay Gold” with my daughter Viv during our time with The Outsiders,’ Angelina revealed in a new interview, indicating that the phrase was delicately inked on her wrist.

Stay Gold is one of the original songs in the soundtrack which Angelina co-produced with her daughter.

‘It means so much to us separately and together,’ she added to CR Fashion Book. Sixteen-year-olds are able to get a tattoo with parental consent in several states in the US.

In June, the Girl, Interrupted star spoke more about what it was like working with Vivienne, and why she was so enthusiastic to jump on the opportunity of spending time with her daughter.

After winning a Tony award she told Deadline: ‘My daughter Viv loves theater. She appreciates all theater but she certainly knows what she feels close to and what she responds to.

‘She went to see The Outsiders at La Jolla about five times and was telling me about it, and I had read the book, and I’d seen the film years ago.

‘Really, as a mother, as a person, I was watching it, but I was really watching the effect it was having on my young daughter and what she was telling me about herself, and I was learning what about it was important to her and why it connected so deeply to her.’

She sought to understand the impact of the plot on her daughter, which follows 14-year-old Ponyboy Curtis and his brothers who are orphans in a place known as East Side caught up in a gang.

She continued: ‘I had the privilege of watching everyone work over this last year to make it into what it is, and Vivienne has been there the whole way.’

The actor explained how she and Vivienne would discuss her ‘amazing notes’ for the show and she used it as ‘a moment to learn more about Viv’.

The tattoo revelations come as her children distance themselves from their father Brad Pitt (Picture: Getty)

Elsewhere in the interview with CR Fashion Book the mum-of-six also admitted that she shares a bird tattoo with a few of her other children which is ‘personal to us’.

The news of this special bond between herself and her children comes after increasing reports that the brood – Maddox, 23, and Pax, 20, daughters Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, Vivienne and twin brother Knox – are distancing themselves from their father, Brad Pitt.

Angelina ended her relationship with actor Brad, 60, in 2016 after an incident that allegedly took place on an airplane between Brad, Angelina, and their children.

Most recently, their daughter Shiloh ‘officially dropped’ Brad’s last name in documents filed shortly after her 18th birthday. She now goes by just Shiloh Jolie.

The move happened against the backdrop of the ongoing legal dispute between Angelina and Brad who are still in the middle of their divorce due to disagreements over the fate of their Château Miraval winery.
