A contestant on The Voice UK will return to the stage for the first time in 58 years tonight.

The current season of the ITV reality series has already seen several emotional moments play out, including a proposal on last week’s episode.

Now, the show will see the oldest contestant ever take to the stage.

In a clip ahead of the next episode, 76-year-old Bette is seen speaking about the significance of her blind audition, in which she is hoping to turn the chairs of coaches Sir Tom Jones, Will.i.am, LeAnn Rimes and Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones.

‘I haven’t been on stage since 1966. But, at 76, you’re still a young thing if it’s in your mind,’ she says.

‘I want to do myself proud and I want to make my family proud.

‘It’s a big privilege to be here.’

Captioning the post, The Voice wrote: ’76-year-old Bette will be on your screens tomorrow! Trust us… you don’t want to miss this.’

Her son, comedian Stewart Reynolds, also shared more details about his mum’s decision to perform again after so many decades.

‘My Mom @thatsbette has been having a year,’ he shared on Instagram alongside a photo of her on The Voice.

‘She was 24/7 caregiver for my Dad who had dementia for years. Dad died in January. She filmed The Voice UK in February. She released 2 songs since and we just finished filming her Christmas music video. She’s an inspiration,’ he added.

Later sharing a photo of them backstage, Stewart said he ‘couldn’t wait’ for people to see his mum on the show.

Ahead of seeing her sing, many The Voice viewers also shared they were looking forward to her performance and believed she was a legend for stepping up again.

‘Can’t wait! Quite right too….it’s mindset that counts, not our age. Be very proud my lovely. Good luck,’ Jayne commented.

‘Hope she does well 🙏 looking forward to hear her sing 😍,’ Rose posted.

‘Love her already, Morgana added.

The Voice continues tonight at 8.30pm on ITV1.
