Sarah Hadland has declared she ‘fancies’ her Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Vito Coppola.

The Miranda actress, 53, is one of the stars competing on this season of the long-running BBC series, where she has been paired with the 32-year-old Italian dancer.

Last weekend they took to the dancefloor for the first time, picking up a score of 30 from the judges for their quickstep.

Over the years there’s been plenty of rumours surrounding the so-called ‘Strictly curse’, with some already speculating about potential romances off-screen.

Now Sarah has declared that she does have a soft spot for Vito, admitting she thought he was attractive the moment they met.

‘What a ridiculous question to ask me. Yes, I fancied him. I’m alive, aren’t I?’ she quipped.

‘If you’re female and have a heartbeat, how could he NOT be anybody’s type?

‘The paso doble we’re doing this week is very serious and sensual, and when we started learning it I was very, very giggly,’ she added when speaking with The Sun.

Sarah continued: ‘I kept the eye to camera because there’s a lot of, I’m going to call ‘tuppence to thigh’. I’m being bold… there’s a lot of groin to thigh, and I have to look deep into his eyes — which make it ten times worse.’

Despite being a professional actress, also appearing in The Job Lot, Sarah said it hadn’t quite prepared her for getting so intimate with her dance partner.

‘As an actor, you do get to be very up close with people, but with Strictly it’s another level. You have to be so close. I’m going to be honest, though — it’s not hard. Or rather, should we say, it’s not difficult. Let’s go with that,’ she explained.

Sarah also joked that Vito was ‘the cherry on the cake’.

“I’ve been a superfan of Strictly since it began. It’s incredible — everything, the costume . . .  then Vito is the cherry on the cake!”

However, when asked about a possible romance being sparked on the show, Sarah said she ‘didn’t have the energy’.

Sarah starred on Miranda from 2009 to 2015, playing Stevie Sutton opposite Miranda Hart.

She most recently appeared on the BBC comedy Daddy Issues alongside Aimee Lou Wood and David Morrissey. Daddy Issues.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 6.15pm on BBC One.
