A Question Of Sport stars Sue Barker, Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell are getting the band back together a year after the BBC decided to axe the quiz show.

The iconic programme was on screens for 53 years before being taken off the air, with a .a variety of hosts and team captains during its time.

Sue, 68, took over from David Coleman in 1997 until she was sacked in 2021 as the programme was being taken in a different direction.

At the time, captains Matt, 51, and Phil, 58, stepped aside as new host Paddy McGuinness stepped in with Sam Quek and Ugo Monye in a new line-up that divided opinion.

Now, Sue is reuniting with Matt and Phil for A Question Of… Live, which will go on tour across England in towns and cities including London, Oxford and Manchester.

The live shows will feature a panel of special guests with rounds and challenges familiar to viewers, and audience members will get to test their own sporting knowledge.

‘I am thrilled to be reuniting with Matt and Phil. We love a quiz. We love a laugh. Can’t wait,’ Sue said in a statement, while Matt added: ‘I am delighted to be going on tour with Sue and Tuffers and welcoming back some of our favourite sporting guests from over the years.”

Meanwhile, Phil joked that the host might have her hands full as she returns to the hot seat.

‘I can’t wait to get back on the road with the dream team of Sue, Matt and me,’ he said. ‘Good luck, Sue, in looking after Matt and me and all our great guests.’

Just days later, it was reported that the BBC had left the door open to bringing back the show, after saying the format was not for sale and that it reserved the right to relaunch it in the future.

‘The axe hasn’t fallen permanently on the programme – the BBC just want to put it on ice for a while before bringing it back,’ a source told The Sun.

‘It’s essentially a face-saving exercise because they realise they made a mistake fixing something that wasn’t broken. But rather than be seen as performing a spectacular and sudden U-turn, they can present it as a “reboot” in a few years’ time.’

Tickets for A Question of… Live! go on sale on Wednesday October 9 at 10am. Special guests will be announced in due course.
