Jonathan Ross was left wiping back tears after an emotional moment on The Wheel.

Michael McIntyre’s BBC gameshow returned for a new series on Saturday night with a host of famous faces, including Jonathan, Joanne McNally, Gethin Jones, and Loose Women star Judi Love.

The 63-year-old chat show host was putting his expertise on ‘toys’ to the test, but it was his knowledge on The Beatles that helped contestant Hala.

The mum-of-two revealed her plans for the prize money were to walk down the aisle and get married, as she hadn’t been able to do that before due to a health battle.

’10 years ago I was suddenly hospitalised and as a result I lost the ability to walk,’ Hala said, explaining her rare neurological condition.

‘I’m out of the wheelchair now and walking, so just mega-grateful of everything to be honest.’

Hala and her husband did get married while she was in hospital, ‘when things were really quite bad’, but she was hoping to have another big day and walk down the aisle.

‘It felt right to me to do that,’ she went on, adding: ‘I never thought I’d be able to walk.’

Hala didn’t manage to answer correctly on her first time around The Wheel, but had one last chance to walk away with £21,500.

‘Please, let’s win this show for you,’ Michael hoped.

When the question of who the ‘usual bass guitarist’ of The Beatles was, Jonathan shouted out: ‘Paul McCartney! 100%!’

Hala was in tears as Jonathan made his confident declaration, adding: ‘I even went to his house once, and he let me play his bass guitar! That’s how sure I am!’

Shaking and breaking down into sobs, Hala gave her final answer and said of the chance to win: ‘It will change my life, I’ll be getting married but I’ll be helping people that will help me.

‘I’ve felt so guilty for the last ten years with people helping me, I’ll be able to help them.’

Jonathan couldn’t hold back his tears either, and wiped them away as Hala won the huge sum.

‘I’m so pleased for you,’ he said, laughing: ‘And I’ll tell Paul McCartney as well.’

Viewers were also sobbing, with viewer @carolwilliams11 writing on X: ‘Hope you have a wonderful wedding Hala – and yes like everyone else , I’m crying too.’

‘No because I’m sobbing for Hala, what a wonderful woman,’ @Rhiadosstuff wrote.

@SharonKnowles6 wrote: ‘Hala must be the most worthy winner the show has ever had, love to see it What a lovely genuine lady.’

‘wasn’t on my bingo card to shed a few tears at #TheWheel tonight, what a deserving winner, Hala,’ @Ciara_576 added.

The Wheel airs at 8.20pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
