James Blunt has revealed that his father lost his fingers in a gruesome lawnmower accident.
The singer, 50, appeared on Sunday Brunch to promote the rerelease of his debut album Back To Bedlam which was released in 2004 and includes songs such as You’re Beautiful, High, Wisemen, and Goodbye My Lover.
In celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary, the singer is re-releasing the album and going on tour – he’s also promised to change his name to whatever the public wants.
While discussing the new album and his bizarre promise to change his name, the singer revealed a horrifying story that involved his dad having his fingers torn off by a lawnmower.
‘Speaking of cutting fingers off, my dad cut his own fingers off with a lawnmower. In the lawnmower, well remarkably stupid isn’t it.’
He revealed the incident was partially his ‘fault’: ‘The wheel had come off and it was my fault as I’d hit a tree three weeks before and the wheel had fallen off, and I’d turned the engine off and put the wheel back on.’
‘And then when my dad was mowing the lawn, the wheel came off, he didn’t have very far to go so he just thought he’d pick it up. And he came back up with no fingers.’

The story only got more horrific as he went on, revealing he was even tasked with finding his dad’s fingers.
‘So he was taken off to hospital and he tried to drive himself to hospital, a neighbour wouldn’t let him do that.
He then added: ‘Then I was told to see if I could find the fingers to see if we could put them back on and I couldn’t because it was like an apple – have you seen an apple go through a lawnmower? But we did find a nail.’
The other guests on the show were horrified by this gruesome story and quickly moved on to the next segment and tried not to dwell on this anecdote.

James Blunt revealed earlier this week that the public has voted for his new name to be Blunty McBluntyface.
The name is a hilarious nod to the viral ‘Boaty McBoatface’ of 2016 when the public gave a very inventive name to a new British research vessel.
But James has strict criteria about his name change, clarifying: ‘But if it doesn’t go to number one, I’m not changing my name, it’s safe to say this is the most important democratic moment of the year.’
So it’s unclear just yet if James Blunt will indeed be taking on the hilarious moniker.
Back To Bedlam the 20th anniversary was released on October 11, 2024.
