Sony has admitted that PS5 Pro owners won’t be able to attach their PlayStation 5 faceplates to it, as one fan confirms that the Slim console covers don’t fit either.
Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro, which comes out November 7, have been live since the announcement back in September, when it shocked fans with its lofty £699.99 price tag.
However, there’s more bad news for those eager to get the mid-generation console, as Sony has confirmed that the cosmetic faceplates for the original PlayStation 5 won’t fit the PS5 Pro.
According to Sony the, ‘PS5 console covers are not compatible with PS5 Pro.’ PS5 Pro faceplates are on their way but that means even more expense.
The publisher confirmed the mismatch to IGN, adding: ‘Players will be able to swap out different console covers for PS5 Pro when they become available in the future.’
In the meantime, a fan recently tried to attach a PS5 Slim faceplate to the new PS5 Pro, which only worked for the bottom bit of the console but not the top of it.
‘I had some Cobalt blue plates so I decided to try them out on the Pro and I can confirm the bottom plates match the Slim, however the top plates do not match,’ they said on Reddit.
This is because ‘the teeth that connect to the system are in slightly different places. So you can’t connect the top part. I’m only telling you all this so y’all know and don’t bother ordering plates for the Slim to use on the Pro.’
It’s no surprise that the faceplates for the Slim doesn’t fit the Pro, which is significantly larger.
But this means that a single PlayStation fan might have ended up buying three different sets of faceplates this generation, if they got them for the original PlayStation 5, the PS5 Slim, and the PS5 Pro.
If you have faceplates for the PlayStation 5, that means you’ve already spent £44.99 on the cosmetic, while the cheapest Slim console cover will set you back £49.99.
Then again, faceplates are very much an optional embellishment, that does nothing but look nice.
