Korean actor and Queen Woo star Song Jae-rim dies aged 39-Pierra Willix-Entertainment – Metro

Korean actor and former model Song Jae-rim has died aged 39.

The actor had his breakout role in the 2012 drama series The Moon Embracing the Sun.

He then went on to appear in several popular TV dramas, including Cool Guys, Hot Ramen, Inspiring Generation, Two Weeks and Queen Woo.

On the big screen, he was also seen in Grand Prix, The Suspect and Bait and was most recently appearing on stage in the musical La Rose De Versailles, with his last performance in mid-October.

According to Seoul Seongdong Police Station, Song was found dead at his home in Seoul last Thursday afternoon.

‘Currently, there is no evidence of foul play,’ a spokesperson said, as reported by The Korea Herald.

A cause of death has not yet been released, however is funeral is set to be held at the Yeouido St. Mary’s Funeral Hall in the South Korean capital on Thursday.

The actor had recently changed his Instagram profile message to read ‘a long journey begins’.

Jae-rim began his career in the public eye as a model, walking the runway for designers including Juun. J, Herin Homme and Ha Sang Beg and also featuring in Bazaar Korea, GQ Korea, Esquire Korea, and Marie Claire Korea.

His acting debut came in 2009 and while he had a string of notable roles, he also appeared in music videos for several K-pop stars including 2NE1, KARA, BOA and After School.

In 2014 he also appeared on the reality variety show We Got Married, which saw him undertaking tasks with actress Kim So Eun after they were paired up together and had to pretend to be married.  

One of his most recent roles was in My Military Valentine and the period drama Queen Woo.

Sharing their tributes online, fans were devastated by the news, with one writing on X: ‘It’s heartbreaking to hear about Song Jae-rim’s passing. Such a talented actor gone too soon, leaving behind a legacy of incredible performances. Mental health is so important. Let’s continue the conversation and check in on those around us. Rest in peace.’

‘It’s a reminder that we never truly know what someone is going through. Sending strength to his loved ones. Rest in peace, Song Jae-rim,’ another added.
