ANY case for not unlocking fully on June 21 has surely evaporated.
The Health Secretary’s stats prove it.
Yes, cases of the Indian variant, now dominant here, are rising. But so what, if hospitalisations remain as flat as they are?
Deaths are still rock-bottom, with just one UK-wide today.
And the vaccines provably conquer the Indian strain. As Matt Hancock said, of 12,000-plus cases only three people jabbed twice ended up in hospital. That is a negligible fraction.
Tomorrow over-25s will be invited for theirs. They must not hesitate.
Nor must Boris next week as he makes the final call on ending lockdown for good.
Aid showdown
THE foreign aid rebellion, against the Government and most of the public, is not over.
Speaker Lindsay Hoyle rightly killed today’s Tory backbench bid to bolt an aid clause on to an unrelated Bill.
His odious predecessor Bercow would gladly just have done his mates a favour.
But the PM will eventually have to face down his rebels in a vote.
The foolish, long-established 0.7 per cent of GDP aid commitment, and our desperate haste each year to meet it, ensured multiple scandalous wastes of money.
Every penny was borrowed on behalf of taxpayers, many not yet born.
Surveys show the paying public wants the bill cut. They are happy we are saving countless lives abroad with our jabs. They will willingly fund genuine causes.
They object to blindly doling out billions because certain Tories feel warm and fuzzy giving away other people’s money.
Why’s he out?
OLLIE Robinson’s worst tweets were obnoxious. But they should not be career-threatening nine years later.
England’s cricket chiefs have rightly been criticised by the Government for banning him. A hefty fine would do.
