Cillian Murphy is among the Peaky Blinders stars who have paid tribute to late costume designer Stephanie Collie after her death aged 60.

In a post shared on Instagram, the official account for the TV series announced to fans that Collie, who played an essential role in creating the signature style of the show, had died.

The statement read: ‘We were so saddened to learn of the passing of costume designer Stephanie Collie.

‘Stephanie’s incredible work in our first series was key to creating the iconic look of the Peaky Blinders, and has gone on to inspire so many people all around the world.’

The message concluded: ‘Our love and thoughts are with her family.’

In his own statement, Murphy – who stars as the lead character Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders – honoured the impact that Collie has had.

‘Stephanie was a ferocious talent. She invented the Peaky Blinders look and silhouette that has become iconic across the world.

‘We will all miss her. RIP.’

Collie died on October 26 at St Christopher’s Hospice in South London after being diagnosed with terminal cancer six months earlier.

Born on November 16 1963 in Warrington, Cheshire, Collie worked on the very first series of Peaky Blinders, a series that had a global influence on fashion trends.

She also worked on productions including Layer Cake, London Has Fallen, The Hitman’s Boyguard and My Lady Jane.

Throughout her career, she worked with esteemed actors including Samuel L Jackson, Keira Knightley, Gary Oldman, Ryan Reynolds, Michelle Wiliams and Henry Cavill.

Collie won a Royal Television Society Award for best costume design for her work on the first series of Peaky Blinders.

In a tribute, Deadpool star Reynolds said that he was ‘deeply saddened’ to hear about Collie’s death.

‘She was an accomplished and talented designer – but the world has also lost two precious natural resources: her wry wit and acerbic observational humour.

‘My condolences to her family, colleagues and all who knew her. Rest well, Stephanie.’

James Bond star Daniel Craig wrote: ‘Stephanie was responsible for so much of the look and feel of Layer Cake. She was a joy to work with and will be deeply missed. My heart goes out to her family and friends.’

Pulp Fiction star Jackson also shared: ‘Stephanie was fuel for my characters. A wonderfully joyous and collaborative part of my process. I’ll miss her, is an understatement.’

Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn acknowledged the several decades through which he had collaborated with Collie on multiple films.

‘Stephanie and I worked together for 30 years and made seven films. She was always a beacon of good taste and positivity; and no matter how hard the task, she would never give up until it was accomplished to perfection.’

Collie’s husband, director of photography Hubert Taczanowski, died in June this year.

The late costume designer is survived by three siblings Fiona, Alison and Nicola, her nieces and nephews, and her stepdaughter Julia, Taczanowski’s daughter from his first marriage.
