Friends fans have been left astounded after spotting a huge error in an episode that aired 22 years ago in 2002.

Truly, all we can say to this is… Oh. My. GOD!

The episode in question is titled The One in Massapequa, and it was the 18th instalment of season eight.

As diehard fans will remember, this saw Monica and Ross’ parents Jack and Judy Geller celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary with a huge party, which all six of the lead characters attended.

When Ross (David Schwimmer) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) arrive at the celebrations, Jack (Elliott Gould) and Judy (Christina Pickles) greet them while standing next to a table where their guests are leaving their presents.

At first, everything seems normal, with Jack nibbling on a skewer in the middle of the conversation.

But then while having a heated conversation with Ross and Rachel, Jack is suddenly replaced by a stand-in actor, who looks similar to Elliott… but is clearly a different person entirely.

This moment was spotted by a Reddit user called 1channesson, who posted a clip from the episode revealing the blunder.

Several people pointed out that this mistake likely happened because when Friends was originally airing, it was shown in the standard 4:3 aspect ratio.

However, viewers can now watch it in a wider aspect ratio of 16:9, which means that things might be seen on screen that would have previously been cut off.

Including stand-in actors.

‘Another example of what happened when the format switched to wide screen and you could suddenly see all the stand ins,; ChaiGreenTea commented on Reddit.

‘There are a few other scenes I’ve scene (over the last year or two) made mention of, with stand-ins suddenly appearing on screen,’ Grammarhead-Shark added.

‘I recall one involving Rachel in her and Monica’s apartment, now with the wide screen release, shows the stand-in instead of Jennifer Aniston.’

One astonished fan called Attorneyatlau shared: ‘It’s so cool! I never knew you could do this.’

Others speculated that perhaps Elliott Gould was having a break, which is why he was replaced temporarily in the scene.

Friends fans recently spotted what appeared to be an error in The One With The Wedding Dresses (Picture: NBCUniversal via Getty Images)

Friends might have ended 20 years ago, but it’s still – unsurprisingly – sparking conversations and debates among fans far and wide.

Recently, viewers were left ranting over a mistake that they appeared to spot regarding Rachel’s wedding dress, from the 1998 episode aptly named The One With The Wedding Dresses.

In the episode, Monica (Courteney Cox) goes to pick up the wedding dress for Ross’ fiancée Emily (Helen Baxendale).

She decides to put the wedding dress on herself while hanging out at her apartment, before she’s joined by Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) who also puts on a wedding dress just for fun.

And then, to cheer up Rachel, the duo encourage her to put on her own wedding dress, that she was first seen wearing in the pilot… but the two dresses don’t appear to have been exactly the same.

Friends is available to stream on Netflix.
