Marvin Vettori has been in the UFC since 2016 in that time he has established himself as one of the best at 185-pounds. ‘The Italian Dream’ prepares for arguably the biggest test of his UFC career as he takes on Israel Adesanya for the second time in his career. This time with the belt on the line.
Vettori is extremely close to making history. If he can secure a win this weekend, he will become the first-ever Italian champion in the UFC. This is something that Vettori takes huge pride in. Can Marvin Vettori level the series at one win apiece?
‘The Italian Dream’ was born in Trento, Italy on September 20th, 1993. He is the eldest of three siblings. Vettori was enamored by fighting at a very young age and wanted to pursue it as a career after watching the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, Mirko ‘Cro Cop’ among others on Pride TV.
Vettori initially spent a lot of time in Italy going from gym to gym to pick up as much knowledge as he could. However, the sport is not as developed in Italy as it is in other parts of the world and therefore there was a limit to how much Vettori could grow as a martial artist in Italy. Hence, ‘The Italian Dream’ set out for London where he stayed for a few years before moving to The United States to hone his skills at King’s MMA under Rafael Cordeiro.
‘The Italian Dream’ was signed to the UFC when he was just 23. He made his debut at UFC 202 and has not looked back ever since. In his first encounter with the current champion, he was able to push ‘The Last Style Bender’ till the very last minute. Although he lost the fight via split-decision, many believed that the fight could have gone either way.
This time around, Vettori will be aiming to leave no doubt and secure a dominant win and make history by becoming the first Italian champion in the UFC.
