It’s been 16 yeas since 70s icon Neil Young last played Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage but a return is finally ‘on the cards’.

Worthy Farm rumours are absolutely flying at the moment from Kings of Leon’s suspicious tour schedule to Nile Rodgers’ accidental confirmation.

Sir Rod Stewart, 79, is the only act confirmed for Glastonbury 2025 so far, taking the coveted Legends slot on Sunday afternoon.

That leaves three headline spaces still up for grabs and organisers appear to be planning to go into the fallow year on a huge bang.

An insider has revealed that Neil, 79, and his band The Chrome Hearts are ‘firming up plans’ for next year and Glastonbury is ‘on the cards’.

‘He is keen to play a handful of big shows in Europe and his team are keen to get him on the line-up,’ a source told The Sun.

Neil, who started his career in the 1960s, has bagged multiple Grammys across his career, as well as being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: in 1995 as a solo artist and in 1997 as a member of his first band, the folk-rock outfit Buffalo Springfield.

They added: ‘With Sir Rod Stewart confirmed to play, if Emily Eavis can get Neil on board too there would be two huge legends on the line up. Stevie Wonder is also in the mix for this year as well as The 1975.

‘Glastonbury appears to be leaning back into its roots of rock, and if they can secure Neil it would be an amazing addition to what is already shaping up to be an incredible line up.’

Neil’s health means that the Cinnamon Girl singer is looking at open air concerts rather than indoor performances as he reworks his European tour plans.

In June, while touring with Crazy Horse, a huge chunk of their US leg was cancelled due to two band members falling ill.

A return to Glastonbury would be perfect for the rocker, whose last trip to Worthy Farm was slightly overshadowed by the shock death of Michael Jackson.

News broke on the Thursday evening, with tributes springing up across the festival – including The Streets covering Billie Jean.

The lineup that year was quite impressive with Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine, Bon Iver, Lily Allen, Tom Jones, and Nick Cave taking to various stages.

Bruce Springsteen was Saturday’s epic headliner while Britpop legends Blur closed the show on Sunday – a great year for them as rivals Oasis split two months later.

Glastonbury organisers usually keep headliner announcements close to their chest until Spring, with fans offered another chance to get tickets in April.
